While as usual PR is slow to offer a through MEL, SYD, BNE or DRW to LHR fare on its new Boeing 777-300ER five days each week flights from MNL to LHR that commence in early November, by using the multi-city booking option and booking each sector separately on Philippine Airlines :: Home I was able to come up with a fare (even at the official PR poor exchange rate for US$ to $A) of A$5435 business class return for November 2013 dates.
This route and option won't suit everybody as it requires an overnight stay in MNL to LHR; with careful selection of days, one can connect direct to Oz on the way home.
It is however a good standard of service in the J cabin of PR's 773ERs.
If you approached a travel agent, you may obtain an even better fare (in J or whY).
It's surprising that PR isn't yet officially offering through fares Oz to LHR as this airline needs to fill a 370 seat plane five days a week between MNL and LHR. If it marketed the Oz route as an option to or from LHR or Europe it might get at least 30 connecting passengers a trip and perhaps more, given that when I compared the above fare with other offerings for similar dates on Cheap Flights & Airfares - Book International Flights | Jetabroad, only BI and CZ were cheaper, and not by much. BI only flies from MEL in Oz now and does not serve alcohol on board (although flight attendants will mix a drink if you BYO your favourite 'poison'), while CZ is expanding but has the disadvantage of few flight attendants who speak great English and a not overly well regarded connecting hub in CAN. For PR, MNL T2 is nothing to write home about but there are good airport hotels fairly close by and the vast majority of the populace speaks good English.
