Has anyone been on a A330-300 lately? In particular, PER to SIN.
Any problems with the AVOD system?

Last time i was on QF77 and 78, the AVOD was not working at all. They must have rebooted 5 times with no success. (May 2006)

Reason i ask is that i'm thinking of using 24000 FF points to upgrade to business on my next trip. But I don't want to waste the points if the AVOD is still having problems.

thanks

The route is not relevant to the operation of the AVOD system. Its just as likely (or unlikely) to operate correctly on PER-SIN as on SYD-BOM. QF does not dedicate a specific aircraft to a specific route. All the A330-300s get rotated through all the routes they operate.

The AVOD content is the same for economy as for business class. I am not sure I follow you logic about not wanting to upgrade if the AVOD is not working?? I would have thought you would be more interested in having a working AVOD system if sitting in economy.

I flew PER-SIN in Jan with SWMBO on an A333.

The AVOD did work very well.

One thing to note was the CSM gave all PAX a little pepTalk on how best to use the AVOD duing his post takeoff speil.

This was basically to wait 10-20 seconds after pressing any control button for the system to respond. He advised that repeated pressing of the controls would probably cause your particlar AVOD to crash and if everyone did this, the whole system would come down. (The AVOD, not the Aircraft...)

Got the same "wait" briefing on QF51 to SIN last month and it seemed to do the trick, patience is the key!

Well, a little OT, but problems with the IFE are not only on AVOD enabled planes.

I flew back yesterday QF108 LAX-SYD in J, and all of the seats in my area (Zone C - Rows 29/30) had no IFE at all. Both the radio and video's did not function, as did any of the other functions of the remote control (light/pa call, etc).

Hi Chucksta

I flew PER-SIN in business in June/July and the AVOD was working fine, although I had a similar experience to you back in April on QF78 in economy, where they rebooted 4 or 5 times but couldn't get it to work.

cheers

AVOD on all the A330 routes I have flown recently (Singapore and HongKong out of Brisbane and back) have all worked fine. And yes you do have to be patient with the response on the controls, but at least the system worked all the time with a wide variety of programming. It is a pity the "slimline ergonomic seats" are basically cough. Very uncomfortable after about half an hour and hell on an 8 hour trip.

The crew on all trips so far have been great :D despite some "trying passengers". Just wish Qantas would delete a few rows and give more leg room. :(

I was on QF52 SIN-BNE last night/this morning and AVOD was working fine for me except for the last hour of the flight when my unit ran out of memory. FA's too busy to bother rebooting. I heard a few seats requiring a reboot during the flight but overall no problems.

Disappointing that my favourite program "flight path" was not functioning throughout the flight. :(
