Reapply for same card for bonus points

Anyone tried re-applying for the same credit card to get bonus points? How long do you need to wait? Hoping to get the Amex Velocity Platinum again.

Generally if you apply for a different card you will get a sign up bonus, but you probably wouldnt get on the same card unless you serve the 12 month notice period.

Reading the T&C's is a good start, e.g. for the Velocity Amex as below

Offer only available to new American Express Card Members who apply, are approved and spend $500 on their new Card in the first 3 months of Card Membership. Card Members who currently hold or who have previously held any other Card product offered by American Express Australia Limited in the preceding 12 month period are ineligible for this offer. Please allow 8 to 10 weeks after the $500 spend benchmark has been met for the 50,000 bonus Velocity Points to be awarded to the Card Member's Velocity Account. This advertised offer is not applicable or valid in conjunction with any other advertised or promotional offer.

Of course sometimes what financial institutions say they are going to do and what they actually do differs, which is where a good forum like this assists.

I know what T&C's say. Those you quoted are not even for the current offer as it is 100,000 bonus pts and $2000 minimum spend. But the 12 months is still there. Why I am asking is that there are numerous posts on various forums where people state they hold another Amex card or have cancelled their current one within 12 months and STILL received the bonus points.

Unfortunately in my case I found it out by signing up for the card and when the bonus points didn't come through I called AMEX to find out why. The rest, as they say, is history; I'm completely over it now
