I don’t pay too much attention to media reporting. It’s all here on AFF.
I hope you're being facetious. ABC is the official emergency broadcaster.

Make sure you have a battery-powered radio capable of receiving signal from your local ABC station.

It is damn windy here on the Sunshine Coast ATM. !! We are just north of Caloundra and 500 m from the ocean.
Have you checked that the ocean is still 500m from you?

Whilst tropical cyclones have not crossed the coast in 50 years ex tropical cyclones have certainly crossed the coast as tropical storms. We experienced a wild welcome to the coast in 1992. A tropical cyclone continued down the coast some distance offshore. We went out for a Valentines dinner in 1992 and only 4 customers there. That cyclone bought flooding to much of SEQ and mainly when it weakened to a tropical storm and came back to the north. Crossed the coast Near the NSW border I believe.

We have been through quite a collection of Cyclones, hurricanes, typhoons and even a couple of tornadoes. Most cancellations occur much closer to the actual event. We have landed and taken off at NRT in a typhoon though in different years.

We were in Boca Raton, Forida for a conference. In the morning we were assure that Hurricane Rita would pass well to the north. snd the days sessions would continue as planned. At midday the conference closed down and everyone was told to get back to their accommodation ASAP. We just made it back to the Embassy suites before the worst of it passed by.

All such advents unlike airlines do not stick to a schedule. They are very changable and can alter paths even in the last few hours before crossing the coast. So airlines cancelling flights 72 hours out from a projected hit run a not inconsiderable chance that those flights would have been able to fly so causing inconvenience to many more passengers than necessary. I can assure you with a flight booked BNE-AKL on Friday this week if it were cancelled in the next 24 hours I would be mightily peeved if it turned out on Friday to be able to fly along with thousands of others.

You just have to look at SQ threads how many on AFF are mightly displeased with them about their very cautious approach to turbulence.

But the official emergency broadcaster is only for the few hours before and after the severe event occurs. It has nothing to do with forecasts.
In fact the ABC is the worst to overhyping the severity of the weather. The say that the Sunshine Coast has severe heat when our temperature reaches 31C. But our summers average is 30C.

There has been a change in the cyclone. This morning it was predicted to be just off the Sunshine Coast at 4am Thursday and the influence went down to BNE.

This afternoon the cyclone will be just off the coast at 4pm Thursday. Influence now north of BNE.

I’m currently on hold to the SG QF line in Aus from Sri Lanka, and have been for 20 minutes, fortunately it’s a wifi call. I fell off WP in November, back to LTG. 😢

Anyways, I fly in to Sydney at 1830 on Emirates F 6th. I was out the next day back to TSV via BNE but that might be a shot duck now.

I’m gunna try to get the Alliance codeshare direct to TSV as a direct no charge swap, leaving evening 7th. Failing that I’ll take Deathstar direct at 0640 7th direct if I’ve gotta.

If neither are possible I guess I’ll just roll the dice and see what happens

Just spent 2.5 hours on phone to QF to change reward booking for Fri 7/3 ADL/BNE. QF's instructions to their CC staff are that the 'free' changes apply if flights depart up to 9/3, AND the re-booked flight is within 7 days (if you can in fact get a classic reward within that timeframe). My return leg was scheduled on 10/3, so I prompted them that as it was originally made as a return trip, the return leg is contingent on the first leg. She did at least check with someone and only 5,000pp to change booking.

The flight change shouldn’t be conditional on award space. Per the commercial policy, any seat will do.
