Went shopping today at WW and noticed an addition to my receipt. The title is RECEIPT REWARDS and the offer is for a specific purchase at BWS or WW Liquor. Coles/Flybuys docket deals have their own thread so I thought I'd start a new thread for this promotion.

The offer was for "2 for the price of 1, Matua Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc". The offer is valid until 1 January, 2013.

There are other terms and conditions but I won't go into them here. I don't know whether this was targeted or random and I don't know whether the promotion will only be for liquor products or whether WW supermarket products will be included.

The EDR card used for the purchase has never been used at WW Liquor or BWS so I'm guessing it's either a spec offer or a random offer.

Has anyone else received anything like this?

Yes, although I seem to always get 2:1 for $10 wine that's been priced at $15 (so the saving is more like 25% on "market" price vs the "in-store" price 50% reduction). If that makes sense.

Wow, that was a quick pick up there rainbowgirl! I will explain a little bit more about the purpose of the program for everyone

From the 28th of November 2012 Woolworths Supermarkets will be trialling a 'Receipt Rewards' Program in conjunction with BWS and Woolworths Liquor Stores.

This will mean that supermarket shoppers will be 'rewarded' with with a liquor voucher at the bottom of their shopping receipt. These vouchers can be redeemed at BWS and Woolworths Liquor stores, with each receipt containing a barcode which will trigger a special offer for customers.

There is no minimum spend limit at the supermarket to get this offer, however, coupons will not be issued for Tobacco products purchased.

If you don't require a receipt, you will still receive a docket containing only the coupon.

The program will run from the 28th of November until the end of the trial period on January 16th 2013.

If you have any questions about the program please speak to staff at the service desk of your local store or leave a message in this thread and I will try my best to answer them for you :)

Thats a lot of words to say "we are copying Coles" by giving away two bottles of what is essentially (I suspect ) cleanskins for the price of one, given the alcohol on offer is a home brand as such where Coles/Woolies give it a brand that a geographic name but not an independent winery!

Thanks for the explanation though :)

If they really wanted to copy coles, they could reinstate bonus points! ;)

I think it is a fairly lazy promotion and just copying Coles.

Given all of the data that EDR and Woolies has about us surely the offer could be personalised once we've scanned the card?

As someone who doesn't drink and has this in my profile I resent being given alcohol offers.

Some more offers to get points would be good and IMHO would fulfil the reason for scanning the EDR card for purchases <$30. This has to be a two way relationship or it will be abandoned by the customers.

The Coles ones I have had have tended to be labels known to me, and in this case, Matua Wines, is a winery. Having said that, Coles certainly has a thing with promoting New Zealand Sauv Blanc, and it looks like Woolworths are even copying the type of wine they are promoting!

If its Matua Valley then it's a fosters label, the Coles offers I have seen have been for Cloudy Bay, which is a clean skin effectively given thats a house label, of which there are over 100 between the duopoly:

Who Makes My Wine? | List of Woolworths Coles Cellarmaster wines

Sure you're not thinking of Cradle Bay?

Cloudy Bay is certainly not a house label. People who enjoy their Te Koko might be offended at you calling it a clean skin :)

My latest offer was on Caisillero del Diablo. Not a house brand to my knowledge.

I stand by my pricing/discount complaint. It's closer to a 25% discount to buy two vs buying two at DM (even if it is 2:1 the higher liquorland/ww liquor pricw offsets some of the saving).

Seen but not sure what direction Woolworths is heading in, the EDR card was great because it eliminated 'dockets' and offers came to email. Then they did that stupid sticker thing, now we're back to dockets... sure, a note on my receipt telling me of the offer would be good, and then using my EDR card instead of keeping the receipt would make more sense.

They're heading in the wrong direction.

Matua Marlborough is a TWE (former Fosters) brand - so not a Woolworths housebrand.
RRP is $21.00
WOW online is $20.69 (with a further 30% off for 6)
DM's is $12.35 in any 6

So 2:1 is still better than DM's but not that great.

Agree with samh004 on using the card as the barcode.
I suspect Woolworths are trialling response rate on offers on barcodes, versus offers on email etc.

It's all about impulse purchasing

Having targeted email offers doesn't make you go and suddenly buy something (well except for Macro/Select products)...........

The average person feels special with a docket deal, and will walk into BWS and spend $$$$ on wine/alcohol they wouldn't have previously
The average person also loves saving 4/8cents on fuel

:(

This.

People will walk into the attached woolworths liquor on the way out from the supermarket, ask the staff what this free bottle of wine is, then spend $20 that they wouldn't have ordinarily spent to 'get something for free'.

I work for woolworths liquor and saw this exact behaviour in action last week.

Thats fine where its legal to have an attached liquor store, which is not the case in all states.
