Hi all,

just returned from a week in Queenstown, flew SYD-ZQN return on VA booking / NZ metal (ticket was saver lite both legs). Thought I would post a quick review as a velocity plat & partner being velocity gold (for those interested) and consequently, have a bit of a "can someone explain".

*ive never posted a review like this before so apologies if a bit rough and feel free to skip over if not interested*

SYD-ZQN
Check in through premium counter
Checked in 4 bags (one extra then allowed), put this down to nice agent.
Noticed our boarding passes were "the works", which I was not expecting given we were on a saver lite, maybe this is why we got extra baggage?
New lounge - very nice fit out, ordering coffee from the air nz app very cool feature
On board - row 4A/B, plenty of leg room, would rival row 3 on VA
Ordering food & bev post meal service from ent screen another cool feature
Cabin crew made specific effort to give us noise cancelling headphones and express pass
All and all, walked away really impressed with the service and lived up to the expectation of being treated very well by air nz.

ZQN-SYD
First minor hiccup faced with bag check, assuming id get 4 bags checked, however only could do 3 (which was my original expectation), desk agent was kind enough to check 4 through however free of charge.
Boarding passes...seat only (as expected out of SYD, this is my can someone explain)
Row 6A/B...slightly less legroom then row 4 (and I feel less then row 3 VA)
Inflight-given no further special treatment.
I walked away from the return leg, not disappointed, the crew did their job and we received the product we paid for. However, on this leg alone, would choose VA over NZ hands down.

MY "CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN"
So, I feel like I have a good grasp of the velocity program and ok-ish awareness of codeshare with nz. However, I was left stumped as to why we received "the works" on one leg and "seat" on the other, when we had identical tickets booked with va for both legs. can anyone explain this? Was this simply a case of the check in agent 'upgrading' us? Or just a lucky mistake? If anyone could shed some light would be very intrigued!

thanks
