With the Beast from the East storm raging across Europe, my daughter is at the end of her first solo trip. Just a few days in Dublin before her Etihad flight home to Australia and the weather set in...wind, freezing temperatures, snow, and more snow. Her flight was at 0830 today. She wakes this morning to find there are no taxis and the airport coach service cancelled for the day. With an hour and a half to go, someone offers to drive her to the airport.

I messaged my daughter and told her I would message Etihad.
Her response; "And tell them what?"
Me: "Don't you know who I am?"

From Sydney I message Etihad on facebook to ask if the plane is on schedule. Yes, it is. I explained my daughter was having difficulty reaching the airport but that she would be there around 0745. I provided her name and Booking Reference. Could Etihad put a message on the system to let Dublin check-in know she would be late but would be there. The helpful agent, Haithem, said of-course and messaged me back when he had done so. 30 minutes passed and he messaged me again to ask if she made it. It was now 0750 and she had just pulled into T1.

Check-in were expecting her and she made the flight.

I got a short "Thanks" from my daughter.
Me: "It's my job".

I am relating this to let others know you can use facebook to message the airline in these sort of circumstances and that they actually respond reasonably promptly. To my surprise they were helpful and I am sure Haithem's efforts helped my daughter remain calm(ish) and assisted her in making the check-in.
