Is it just me, or are these changes announced just a little too quickly after the recent FF survey that QF sent out??

I mean, if you are going to pretend that changes are a reflection of member wants and needs. At least leave a decent amount of time between the survey and the announcement to create the illusion that one is reflective of the other.

Whilst the reality is that the decision may be made before the "consultation" occurs, it is poor governance to make it that obvious.

And organizations like QF wonder why customers have an inherent distrust of them...

I thought they almost continuously run surveys, focus groups, and what not... Some are targetted, some not.

I recall a huge survey that they offered a tiny 500 points for, that was quite a few months ago... That went through just about every aspect of its operations.

I would have thought one approach would have been to come up with a bunch of proposed changes, survey members about possible changes and then finally tweak the model once the survey results are in. That way you dont have months of uncertainty and speculation about upcoming changes because people have been surveyed in such a way that sparks some questions.

Problem for QF is that the FF members would hardly ever agree with what they want to do.

Perhaps they did get some of what they asked for. A common theme is on the fora is overcrowding at the Qantas Club's. One could argue that Qantas have taken a small step towards addressing the issue. Of course, the platinum members may not have thought they were the group that were going to be in the crosshairs first.

Moral of the story: be careful of what you ask for-you may just get it:shock:

I'll repeat again... Yes, the problem is acknowledged and agreed, but their solution only annoys some of their most loyal customers, and yet won't really solve the problem (as noted on this thread, not many WPs go to the lounge just for the sake of it).

P.S. I'm officially asking for guaranteed upgrades for international flights to return. Hope I get what I ask for...!

Though they seem fairly unanimous about what changes they don't want at the moment.

On this forum perhaps. But don't forget the real world exists out there and they travel very differently and value things differently to on here.

If they don't use it much, then why be so aggravated by the change?

If they do use it a lot (on arrival, flying someone else), then it will have an impact on reducing crowding.

(Of course, I am aware that to a platinum, Anytime Access is the one true way of accessing the Qantas Club, and everyone elses access should be curtailed :))

One way to reduce crowding would be to go back to the guest pass system and not have an automatic guest allowance. Currently, I can take in 200 guests a year, in principle, 2 per visit. But what I really need is to take in 12 guests a year, 3 per visit. That is a total annoyance to be begging to take in my family 4 times a year when I don't want to take in the extra 188 spaces that I'm entitled to have.

In my case, where I do 100 domestic flights a year, any time access was an incentive to get to platinum. It was the point of difference with gold to be used in the rare occasion when I was on a different airline. Now that point of difference is gone.

To put it another way, while an infrequently-used benefit, on the odd occasion it was required, it was worth its weight in ... platinum? :p

Exactly.
Or perhaps another way, if I want a lounge when flying another airline, it is worth it's weight in DJ Gold.
