Hi all

Starting to put the pieces together for USA early next year, and car rental is the big unknown.

It's pretty terrifying to see quotes of circa $7k for 1 month rental on a basic SUV (Rav 4/Pathfinder) via Hertz, Sixt etc, but I understand it's a massively impacted industry right now. Keen for any recent experiences on the ground.

Has there been any recovery to USA fleets lately? Are websites an accurate reflection of current available cars? Any luck with upgrades on pickup?

Any feedback much appreciated.

SixT were priced well below the other "name" brands for both an awd out of Aspen and a SUV out of LAX and service at the pickup points was pretty good. The only issue may be the length of time, we hired out of Aspen for 31 days online but were told at pickup point they could only handle the booking for 28 days and we would be contacted by head office when we got close to the 29th day for payment on the time extension. We got a little stressed when it got to the 28th day and we were past the drop off time given by Aspen airport to return the car. What if we were in an accident? We were technically in a car with no contract and therefore no insurance to cover us for a period of about 18 hours before we did indeed get a new contract emailled through for the extra 3 days as per our original online booking. So if you can cope with their disjointed IT systems (the booking experience isn't great either) the hard product seems OK.
