Hi,

I was hoping to redeem a voucher for travel to Brisbane in June, however when I try to book with my voucher I am quoted $139, despite the current sale fare being $109 for the same flights, each way.

Is this a known issue? Is it worth calling QFF to ask?

Your voucher still has a ~$50 change fee attached to it, assuming you got the voucher from cancelling a previous flight. Hence the extra cost.

I can't count right now, but it'll be something like that.

Sorry, I should have specified, this is for a gift voucher. If I was claiming a change voucher etc, that would be demonstrated by a smaller voucher value, not a higher price per individual flight.

Gift vouchers can't be used to pay the taxes/surcharges component of the air fare, so, a $100 voucher might not be usable against a $109 fare (given that the taxes charges are around $22). A $50 voucher should be able to used for a $109 fare.

Thanks Mark, I understand that. Basically, I'm trying to use a $150 voucher against what should be 2x$109 ($218) fares for the return trip. Would the taxes and surcharges come to more than $68 for this?

I am guessing that is the issue, as if I try and select just one-way flights for the same date, the red e-deal price goes through the roof. I am guessing I'm only a couple of dollars off the threshold...

I presume you are looking at MEL/BNE. If so, the price breakdown for the E class sale is:

Fare1 x174.00
Charges/Taxes44.00
Total Price218.00$218.00 (AUD)

If you are trying to book after June 20 there are no sale fares.

Earlier than that in June, if it is not letting you book it with a $150 voucher, there is something wrong.

Thanks serfty, I was actually looking at a different leg.

I purchased a $100 voucher and tried the exact same flights with that and got it for $109. Not a real worry for me, I have plenty of travel to do for the rest of the year to use the other vouchers, it just seemed odd as I've used $150 vouchers for 2x$115 flights before.

Certainly looks to be a miserable day to be flying in to Brisbane today! I guess I'll find out in about an hour (ex SYD today)

And I think that is the issue, trying to use a $150 gift voucher for two fares.

The gift voucher can only be used for one fare. You could use two $50 vouchers for this itinerary and be ok, i.e. one voucher each way. Using a $150 gift voucher against a single leg <$150 will mean the extra value will be forfeit.

I disagree. The voucher is good for the fare component of one way or return bookings originating in Oz.

As per my MEL-BNR R/T example above, a $150 voucher should be quite adequate to cover most of the $174 R/T fare compoonent with an additional payment of $68 to cover the rest of the fare ($24) and the TLC's ($44).

If, say, the actual fare had been $148 with TLCs coming to $70 then a $150 vouchour could not be used for those E class (sale) fares.

Thanks serfty, I was actually looking at a different leg.

If it is a CBR-BNE trip, then the taxes are closer to $70 for a return, so that may be enough to knock the cheaper fares out.
