I have a red-e booked.
Is there anyway to go from red-e to flex-saver and not pay the (silly) telelphone booking fees plus other change fees ? I can see the flexi saver is available on the website.

Ideally, I'd like to give Qantas more $$ and 'upgrade' my ticket to a better type.

I'm being selfish with the reasoning being increased SC earn.

I suspect I know the answer, but still live in hope.

I was under the impression that you could move tickets booked prior to the recent fare changes for free, but I don't really know what that related to. Perhaps someone else here can be of more help, or have a look in the thread that announces the fare changes and see what it says...

I'm pretty sure you'll be charged the fee for two reasons:

1. The website states that "Changes to booking or routing prior to day of departure" incur the $55 fee - upgrading to Flexi-Saver is a change to the booking.

2. Under the name change section, it specifically says for red e-deals that you would have to upgrade to Flexi-saver which incurs the $55 change fee and $80 name change fee. Again that suggests that the $55 fee is always applied for the fare upgrade.

The other thing you could try would be to cancel, get a credit voucher, and use that towards the higher Flexi-saver fare. In the past when I've done this in some cases it has charged the change fee on rebooking, other times it hasn't. I think the times it hasn't have been when booking to a higher fare class, although I don't know if this was correct or if I was just lucky. It could be risky to do this as the fee might still charge.
