Hi all,

As mentioned in another thread I had ordered a new bag and I have had a chance to use it on this trip.

First trip in a long time I have gone carryon only. I am away for 10 days and found plenty of room for everything I needed, I will of course be washing clothes while away.

It is a very light bag and takes a lot more than first look would indicate.

I would recommend the bag as long as you are capable of carrying the weight as no wheels. It was strange not having the wheels to carry the load.

Not the cheapest bag but from the look of it will last a long time.

Qs as per the other thread;
1) Can you lock the bag easily?
2) enough small pockets?
3) carrying vs wheels - would you get a sore shoulder if you to have to carry it for a long time? I have to admit, I like the wheels on carry on...

Locking is not going to be easy as it does not have the zip holes necessary for locking, you could however put a lock through the zips.

It has 3 pockets on the outside that are good for doc's and phone etc.

I carried it around ADL on my transit and the shoulder strap is a litttle harsh (it grips so as to not fall off) but I had no worries carrying it. I don't think mrs ejb would be comfortable though.

Thanks for the review.

how would the cable ties go with the zips?

The ones they supply fit well but only provide visual security.

As it is hand luggage I don't really care about locks as it will be with me.

As it is hand luggage, IMO only visual security is needed. Actually that is probably my opinion about all luggage.
But then I'm not sure how do i carry the cutting implement needed to open the cable tie

They provide a wire tie that screws together but looks locked.

Don't you love the Red Oxx guarantee? For those unfortunate enough not to have one of these: "This product is guaranteed forever, be sure to include it in your will.":)

They are considered the same as handcuffs.
Ohh. Someone should have told the security screeners in 2007 at SYD, SIN and FRA.

As for being considered handcuffs, I'd love to see the stupid spook who came up with that use a 5cm cable tie to handcuff someone. Not to mention that one can break out of a cable tie easily if one knows what to do.

Cable ties can still be easily used for checked luggage - simply store any extras inside the checked suitcase.

Cable ties are prohibited items and cannot be taken on a plane.

However the RedOxx ones are allowed on board as they are not big enough to be of any concern and are not technically cable ties, rather they screw together.

It is an excellent looking option.

One more question, which is a bit of a sideline: I know you recommended the bag but are you happy with the purchase?

After one trip I am more than happy. I had plenty of room, the bag is light and is a good shape to fit overhead bins. I flew both 763 and 734 and had no worries.

I purchased the SkyTrain and one of the Safari-Beanos from RedOxx late last year. Have used them for several trips and would definitely recommend them. Extremely good quality and design - and the warranty can't be beaten! I chose the SkyTrain over the Air Boss because of the backpack straps that can be hidden away. It may be the only convertible I ever own...
