Referral bonus but didn't use link

So...has anybody gone through the process of referring a family/friend only for them to subsequently apply directly to Amex without using your referral link? I've just spent weeks (literally) convincing my Mum of the benefits of an amex and she bit the bullet tonight, was approved- but forgot to use my link! Cranky is an understatement! I don't see the point in getting her to cancel/reapply as multiple credit checks/chance of being declined will create more hassle. Any point pleading my case to Amex or am I wasting my time?

Well, you gave it a try. These things happen. Maybe you have some other relatives/friends who will provide you with some referral bonus points.
