Does anyone have any information on wther this refit has begun - changing 4 class to 3 class and installing new seats into J class, the same as they are on the A380? If the refit has begun, what flights, scedules are the new improved version?

I believe the refit is not slated to start until calendar year 2011. Note that as more 380s are delivered, 744s will be retired except for the 6 744ERs and 3 of the non-ER RR powered fleet (all built ~ 1999-2002 iirc). Dont expect the retiring 744s to be refitted.

Expect the "new" fitouts to be progressively mixed through the fleet, leaving F only on the 380s flying from MEL and SYD to LHR (via SIN) and LAX. Everything else will be 3 class without F.

Note this means LHR flights via HKG and BKK are scheduled to remain without F.

Thanks doc for such a rapid and informative response - the A380 seats in J are such an improve over the Mk1 - looking forward to being comfortable and truly lie-flat in J when not flying the aforementioned newer plane.

I was lead to believe that MEL-SIN-LHR will be without F? Possibly ditto on MEL-LAX?

If not, that is good, as it will ensure that there will still be a reason to keep a F Lounge at MEL T2.

What would happen to the old skybeds? A couple of them would make an interesting feature in my home theatre...!

Mr!

Likewise I think 6 in my theatre room would look great, not sure mrs ejb would approve.

Some were recently on ebay for sale I believe.

It would be good to put them in the Dom A332's and run them on the red eye out of PER everynight, that would certainly get me traveling overnight again.;)

I'm not looking forwards to that day... I really will miss the 747's when they leave our skys...

As for the refit skybed mkII's will be nice in the 747's... PS does anyone know the exact layout of the new layouts? Will zone B become Y+, with zone A and upstairs (zone F) for J, leaving zones C \ D \ E for Y. Or will there be some other arrangement?

I still have a copy of the QF press release and it states that there will continue to be F from both SYD and MEL on the 380 to LHR (via SIN) and to LAX. Also the 744 refit isn't scheduled to begin until the end of 2011, with the new 3-class 380s scheduled to be delivered from 2012.
