Hi all,
Wonder if I can get some advice on terminology regarding cancellation of flights and airport fees and taxes refunds. Any advice / experience would be much appreciated

I won free tickets under the Qatar Airways medics promo - super excited I was - 'free' flights for 2 anywhere in the world, easily the best prize I have ever won by a long shot. Only airport fees and taxes to be paid

Once it became clear covid was destroying international travel they extended validity of the tickets from Dec 2020 to March 2021, however have flatly said they won't extend it again and free tickets must be used by then.

Seems highly unlikely to happen from Australia. I have looked at booking flights just in hope that they do extend it, rather than lose the code completely, however the fees and taxes are around $400 for two of us for the return flights.

Qatar have said in the case of cancellation : "unused refundable airport taxes will be refunded"

Does anyone know what this means as far as what I might get back/stand to lose? From the US these amount to only $20 a head, from Aus about $100 a head and from UK about $150. So I wouldn't mind burning that money from a US airport but it can get expensive from other ones...

For what it's worth the breakdown for one of the flights I'm considering has listed the following $ values, and my concern is that only $6.30 (x2) is listed as refundable out of $350 total

Aviation Levy (Refundable)
6.30
Passenger Service Charge (SGAD)
36.10
Qatar Passenger Facility Charge PFC (G4AF)
26.40
H9DE
34.30
Airport Fee (BQDP)
34.30
Qatar Passenger Service Charge Departures (PZSE)
2.80
Qatar Passenger Service Charge Arrivals (PZAV)
3.50
Passenger Services Charge (WYDE)
32.08
