Hi guys,

I went on a 7 month stint to New York as part of work close to 2 years ago now where I met an amazing girl. We've been doing the long distance thing and I've recently gotten a transfer over to the big apple.

In the mean time we've been travelling back and forth.

Looking forward to learning much from you guys and hopefully in turn can share my experience when complete.

Thanks,
Ron

Welcome aboard ronlee, do you have and if so, are you keeping your Qantas status? If so you'll realise that apart from the four ~ each year it is easy enough to retain WP level.

Welcome ronlee.Great name!
Seeing you are commuting to and from the US I would forget QFF.Reason.I have just looked at award flights in Y for Sept/October,SYD-JFK-SYD.
QFF want 128000 points + $855.14-ie 50% of the normal Y fare.
AA want 75000 points + $US134.10.
So you are much more likely to get value with AA v QFF.

Now it may well be better not worrying about status and awards and just go via cheapest fare.Dont forget going via Asia as sometimes very good deals that way. This will probably save you money in the long run and still collect a few points for shorter trips.

Always look out for sales. My plan would be to book early with a TA who doesn't require payment until a few weeks before departure and let them know to contact you if a good deal comes up.If a good TA they will anyway.I know many will say book direct but then you pay upfront and in my experience a sale is announced a week later.

Thanks all. Wanted to find out which US carrier is the best to go with as I expect to be travelling interstate quite often :).

Currently a Silver QFF member in desperate need of 140 SC's to retain silver lol. Looks like a few weekend away trips are need ASAP.

@Drron - Thanks for your advice!
@JohnK - haha I started with this when I flew to NY in 2012 for work - since then I haven't really had the opportunity to travel so sorta went dormant.
