Hi,

does anyone have any recommendations for rent a car in Croatia or is anyone aware of any good deals? (Am looking for my parents who are travelling to Cro in two weeks)

Thanks

We used this mob in 2015 twice. https://www.oryx-rent.hr/en/

From: Dubrovnik Airport return. We drove to Montenegro and north to Split and other places. We had to tell them we were going to Montenegro as there was an extra small charge for this. Can't remember how much.

then

From: Zagreb return (in town) and drove to Slovenia, Austria. Had absolutely no problems except some minor language issues. In fact we got upgraded to a BMW in Zagreb because they had no smaller cars and the BMW they gave us was going to be retired.

Off course like any European car rentals read the fine print and check the car for dings before and after and take lots of photos.

Your parents will love the western Balkan states.

PS: My wife has just reminded me that in Zagreb there was a shortage of hire cars as we had not pre-booked. (this time 2 years ago) We just struck it lucky with the BMW.

Thanks Bolthead, much appreciated. Did have a look at oryx and read some of the reviews on tripadvisor but decided to go with unirent in the end, they were approx. $600 cheaper and reviews on tripadvisor were slightly better.

Fair enough, I can't remember why we went with Oryx in the beginning. I think we booked through one of the consolidators at first. In Zagreb they had an office at the hotel.

We just returned from Croatia. We hired a car with Sixt. Brand new car, good service, we were happy with them.
We picked the car up in Zagreb and returned it in Split

Be very careful to check if a highway carnet is needed for each country you enter. Cost me AUD160 fine for entering Austria without buying the sticker. I still had to buy the carnet just for 2 days.
