I know this has been covered... however I'm after some clarification.

I usually use an online broker site for car rentals in the USA as they always cover all the insurances. I've noticed Hertz also do this via their Australian website, however the prices tend to be very high.

I'm looking at hiring a convertable for a week in Los Angeles. Via Hertz.com.au it comes to about $590 with the insurances (prepaid), however via hertz.co.uk it comes to 196GBP (again, prepaid). However, when I go to pay, the "country" field in the address info is fixed to United Kingdom. I can, however, select the "Pay at Location" option and it doesn't ask for my country of residence. Are they going to refuse me when I collect the car though?

The Hertz.co.uk rate is roughly $20 cheaper than the usual broker site I use, however they book with scummy Dollar and given I'm Hertz Pres Circle (care of DJ), it'd be nice to give that a go.

Doesn't matter what site you use, HOWEVER, your "current geographical location" must be where you currently are

I draw your attention to the following when you make the reservation. Not a risk I'd be willing to take to save a few $$

"This reservation is based on information you have provided Hertz, including information regarding your current geographic location. Hertz reserves the right to demand proof of what you have told us. In particular, if you have indicated that you are located outside your country of residence, you may, at the time of rental, be required to prove where you were when this reservation was made, through evidence such as an air or rail carrier ticket receipt, a hotel bill or a utility bill addressed to you at the location where you say you were. Failure to provide such substantiation may invalidate the rates you have been quoted, or in validate the entire reservation. Providing false information to Hertz in connection with this reservation would also breach your rental agreement and could violate the law."

Well it's a risk I think I'll take on an upcoming booking - the price difference for a three week booking is a savings of almost $1200. I'll be arriving directly on a flight from the UK and also have a UK passport but an Australian Drivers License.

There are no such problems using the Avis UK site. They complete the booking even with an aussie address and I have had no problems with the rentals in the US.

Price saving is irrelevant, when they either deny your booking/price or you crash the car and they find our your booking wasn't made in-line with the T&C's of the contract, and you are liable for all charges/costs

I tried to find this on the Hertz UK site in the Rental Qualifications and the Terms and Conditions and couldn't - are you able to advise where they say this?
