Requalifying status

It Looks like I'm going to be about 240 status points short of requalifying platinum again this year in October. I take it my 560 points will give me gold for the year. Curious to know if Velocity have a soft landing in status or could you fall back to red if you did little flying the year following a platiunum year.

I believe from some experence with my wife and friends that it's soft to Gold and then to Silver.
