This has been bugging me for ages, sometimes it comes good, but lately it hasn't been.

When I access qantas.com from Internet Explorer 8, when trying to book or search for awards, I get:

Request Entity Too Large

A request entity is longer than the server can handle.

Is this just me, or are others getting this too? I open it in Firefox or Safari without any issues. Rather annoying though.

Yup, been happening to me too ... I have to close all IE windows to be able to keep using the Qantas website...

Yes very annoying.

An error I occasionally get when browsing on Blackberry, def not on real internet

I get this in Firefox all the time. Even alluded to it in another thread recently. The last time this happened I switched to IE8 and had no problems. While multiple exits of FF and clearing everything (history, cache, cookies etc.) didn't help. I also ahd a variation of the message that seemed to indicate that it was somehow related to SSL, as I got some message about the "thing" being large than expected for 128 bit SSL. Or it could have been long than 128 bits. I didn't pay much attention as it was a one off and I was pretty frustrated by this stage.

Ohh, another thing I don't pay much attention to is FF updates, I seem to recall about 3 FF updates in the last month. I tell this because when FF updates, if I click the link from an AFF thread notification without opening FF first, I get a open file with dialog. Then it is a matter of closing the dialog, opening FF, which tells me that I've been updated. This has happened about 3 times in the last little while. The requested entity thing might have happened a lot after the first of these "update" events.

Sorry for being long winded, but I'm not IT person so I don't know all the right words and terminology.

In the case of the Blackberry, you must use the BES management console to change the value of the Maximum number of kilobytes per connection field to a higher value, up to 1024K.

Clearing cookies on Chrome solves the issue with Chrome. However it is an issue with the QF webserver that is interpreting the reply from your browser as being too big.

"Request Entity Too Large" means that the system has detected that you are too large to fit in an aircraft seat. You need to call the call centre to book an additional seat.

Alternatively you could clear some cookies until your entity is small enough.

lmfao.....

Got it on Firefox tonight, same search in IE worked aok.

My entity appears to quite easily fit into the seats thanks... Some other SG/WPs could consider reducing the size of their entities so as not to encroach into my seat in dom Y, but that's another story.

Thanks for the suggestions to change browser however this happens in both IE8 and Firefox. It appears to be specific to the Qantas site.

If you wanted to drive a certain car, would you accept that you had to change the roads? I think not.

Should one have to clear cookies and temporary internet files during a single session on the Qantas website, or mid-booking for that matter? I think not either.

I think I still have the GM of IT's email hanging around somewhere so will forward my concern to the big Q.

I find it intriguing that some people have the issue and others do not.

I had an issue with Firefox today.

I deleted my Qantas.com.au specific cookies (don't you love FF :D) and it all worked fine.
Can you pls tell a non IT person how to do this? I'm getting this "Request Entity Too Large" very frequently now....:evil:

Using FireFox, open Qantas - flights to Australia, New Zealand, Africa and Asia. Book airfares at qantas.com.

To the left of the URL line at the top you will see the Qantas Symbol.

  • Click this
  • Select [more information ...]
  • Select [View Cookies]
  • You will see a list of cookies for the Qantas url.
  • Highlight the top one in the list.
  • Click [remove cookie]
  • Repeat until all removed.
  • Click Close
  • Hit F5 or otherwise refresh.
Thanks Ross!! I deleted alot of cookies, and the QF website seems to be working fine now!!:p
