Should be an interesting day with DJ announcing their results, and possibly more news on the revamp, I suspect its the reason QF went early on their news after someone mentioned to Alan (I am all orange) Joyce that the 24th was DJs results day!

So much for qantas loosing money. As the unions said, that is one big fat white lie.

As for tomorrow i personally think there will be more announcments to the rebranding.

They never said Qantas as a whole was losing money, in fact domestic ops was doing quite well. It was always stated it was INT that was losing out.

I've heard too that Virgin might be announcing something today. It would explain why Qantas moved the August 24th announcement forward.

Is it confirmed there is Virgin Press conference today or just gossip?

I actually wonder if QF had ever intended to announce anything today or if last week was always the day. The reason why I say this is to book the type of advertising space they did would need to be organised quite well in advance (the fact the basically did a wrap around in the Herald Sun would have taken some time). Perhaps they did it to surprise everyone?

You raise a good point. But would Virgin really schedule a PR announcement on the same day Qantas were planning on announcing major changes to their airline?

If they think they could successfully drown them out, maybe.



Well up until now all has been gossip and rumours from both airlines.. The only thing that was fact was that QF were releasing results today (mind you how many other companies are doing the same). The joy of social media is the hype and speculation made by people!

Oh dear Jack.Have you read the QF financial statement.ajw373 has kindly provided the link to the media version in another thread-
Qantas more than doubles net profit | News.com.au

And it is exactly as AJ said.QFi lost more than $200 million. No lies there Jack.

Well a net profit of $250 million on shareholders funds of $6 billion, isn't a satisfactory return. Around 4%.
Whether we like the Board's strategy or not something needs to be done to raise the net profit.
As frequent flyers we can only hope that Qantas prospers and provides us with opportunities to use our points.
I'm not confident, but hoping. :)

I thought I heard that something like half of the reporting companies are doing so this week.

A lie, which it isn't, or otherwise it is still an incredibly poor return on investment. At that rate it would be better to shut the airline down and get a high interest investment return.

I actually think that return rate is pretty good in the world of airlines.
