Some advice please?

I've received the dreaded "warning shot" email from the very prolific Mr Switzky advising me that I currently stand at 300+ (I won't give the exact figure) status credits and need another 800+ by end November to retain Platinum. He's going to kindly give me 25 status credits next time I fly to help me get there. Even with his help I expect that I'll end up with 900+ not 1200, by the end of November. Most of those will come in a rush in November as I start a DONE4 though not many of them will be earned on QF metal. I've been WP for 3+ years, without any QF helping bumps, next year I'll earn over 2000 Status credits as it stands, I expect to have around 12000-12500 lifetime credits by the end of my November 2008 year and I've done a lot of QF flying this year but a lot of it has been using up points on upgrades, flights etc  My partner will independently have WP through to end May 2008 and certainly beyond and we do most of our flying together.

What's the recommendation ? Should I write to Mr Switzky now broadly telling him that and that WP status is important to me in making decisions about who I fly with, or should I just sit back, fret, and see what happens? Should I try to get in before any scheme changes which I guess most likely wont come too soon?

I may be a candidate for a leap from the dark side to the AA light I guess and timing for that might be important.

Any thoughts gratefully received.

"Luke - I am your father".... time for a switch I think ;)

Have you checked whether those 2000 SCs will actually get you EXP on AA? The timing of them is critical given the calendar year qualification - if you are going to earn some of them in 2007 then the switch (if you want EXP) may not be as effective as you want it to be.

All of the 2000 will come next calendar year ie no travel in December after I get back froim the first leg of the DONE4 late November. Of the 2000, 1400 will be DONE4 second and third legs and 600 will be other things.

Did your warning shot email include the ability to post forward travel plans??

If so I would mark all of your travel for 08 and see if they renew based on that

Otherwise I'd be willing to drop back to gold, take a lack of challenge on AA, and build back to EXP

No request for plans. Just:

As at xx August 2007, you have 3xx Status credits, so you'll need 8xx more by the end of November 2007 to retain your Platinum membership.

I expect it's the pretty standard first email.

Drat, No warning shot for me, and I am up soon. Oh, well, guess I can look forward to a gold card for the next year....

Yep, it seems to be the current email notification of pending doom.

At least the bonus SCs count towards lifetime earning, while a reduction in the requalification threshold would not help with lifetime earning.

If it was me, I would be sending a reply outlining you future travel plans.

It seems a very standard type letter run off with the only knowledge being of your current points by the computer program. A reply would be handled I believe by a real person and with what you have told us I would expect no problems in a renewal.

I'd try ringing the Premium Desk and explain the situation. Also offer to send the details in an email as support, if they wish.

Thanks for the suggestions all. I've written to QFF and will report the response.

QFF just phoned to say that it is too early to review my situation. If I don't look like I am going to make the 1200 point threshold they'll write to me again about a month out and ask me to detail my plans for the following 12 months. They've noted what I've said at this point.

So I guess that keeps me posting to QF for the next couple of months.

In my case at least, the sequence appears to be 1) warning shot letter with promose of 25 extra SC's on the next flight, then 2) the letter asking me to detail my plans. I know others have not got both or even either. :(

I received 1 well over a month ago, but have not received 2. Will be interesting to see what they send me in September.

I have a September anniversary and received nothing - I wonder if having asked them to reverse some points so I oculd post them to AA made any difference...

Sounds like the best approach. I may be in a similar situation soon, so it would be good if you can post the response.

Ummm. Suggest you read posts above ;)

Interesting post. My review date is 31 august - going to miss 1200 status credits by 270, but no warning letter or asking for forward travel plans.

I really hope this means that I get to retain platinum. :) I am booking my September trips to both South America and South Africa next week before the august 31 cutoff, hoping it will get me over the line.

Last month I got the email headed: "A reminder
to keep your Platinum Privileges" asking me to let them know my future plans by the end of July using a web-based form. The web-form allows only about 8 entries, but I had several international flights - one to Sth America and one to SE Asia already booked and thought I might be in with a chance of retaining my PPs. Indeed, the auto-reply said that someone would write to me very soon.

Well, no-one wrote to me and when I got back from Sth America at the weekend, I found my Gold FF Card waiting for me in the mailbox. The whole exercise seems to have been a waste of time.

Any suggestions?

It sounds probably like they looked at the details and decided not to extend the status. Their offering the possibility of extending does not mean that they will. Were your future plans in economy or business?
