It's now about 18 months since we migrated AFF from vBulletin to Xenforo. While there was some initial pushback ("the only person who likes change is a baby with a wet nappy!" syndrome), I'm happy to report that the migration was really successful: enhanced user interface, responsive layout, better server performance, stable code with better security etc. etc.
While there have been a few maintenance Xenforo upgrades over the last 18 months, we will shortly be doing our first major Xenforo upgrade. Nowhere nearly as drastic as the move from vBulletin, but there will be some changes in both functionality and the user interface. (For those who are interested, you can read what new in Xenforo 2.)
Xenforo 2 offers more features and functionality "out of the box" - reducing the amount of custom "add-ons" we've been using. This is a good thing as it reduces the complexity of the installation resulting in easier maintenance (amongst other things).
One implication of the upgrade is that we will be retiring the AFF Wiki. The wiki was introduced 2.5 years ago and, to be honest, never really took off. There are very few genuine wiki pages and it's used mainly for organising social events and lounge meet-ups. All very important activities, but doesn't really require a wiki!
We will be retiring the wiki system before we upgrade Xenforo. So, in the coming days, you will notice that wiki pages are progressively being removed. The content from the few genuine wiki pages will be made available elsewhere on AFF and there will be a new process for handling social events and lounge meet-ups.
