Hi,

Just wondering can we redeem VA award on SQ metal in J,F on A380/77W? Or even the 773 refitted.

If so am I reading it correctly that it requires 120000 VA miles one way for SYD-SIN in J?

Thanks,
K.

I was recently just looking at redeeming my Velocity points for a reward seat on SQ, so I know for sure you can. But you'll need to call Velocity and check if there is availiability on the flight/aircraft type you want. And SYD-SIN is 3912 miles so requires 120000 points on J class.

Ok thanks. Only downside is that is a lot of points to burn... I have quite a bit of virgin Atlantic miles as well but they can't book in J or F on SQ metal.

How about using your VS points for SYD-HKG (on VS) and then Velocity points for HKG-SIN (on SQ) if you have time to spare? You'll still get to experience A380/B77W on HKG-SIN which will require 60000 points in J (or 20000 in Y).

Thanks for pointing that out. I will consider it....I wonder why SQ blocks the use of VS miles on J in ther A380/77W....

SQ has sold their stake in VS but this is probably unrelated...

SQ blocks J redemption on A380 / 77W to almost all of its star alliance partners too so this isn't surprising.

Pretty sure is unrelated because this restriction was in a while ago...

Interesting they allow VA to use heir miles though for J and F on SQ. albeit poor burn rates.

And higher points required for the A380/B77W services from SYD and MEL compared to their A330 flights from ADL/BNE/PER...

The hefty burn rates are targetted at MEL and SYD where the A380 and 77W fly so clearly SQ is charging a hefty premium for these aircraft. Given these cities are also served by medium haul business class equipped SQ planes (773, A333) it's potentially a particularly poor value redemption with Velocity.

I think it's probably more the case that other *A carriers aren't prepared to pay extortionate rates to access premium J and F products on SQ...
