Reward seat on QF36 or QF38 in late January 2024.

Does anyone have any experience successfully booking J class reward seats with Qantas points on either QF36 or QF38 in January in previous years? I have been watching for many months looking for availability in Jan 2024 without even a single seat popping up. Is this perhaps usual for this time of year and I am waiting for a unicorn? I am a lowly Bronze so I am aware seats may have been snaffled by higher tier members before I even got a look in.

There hasn't been a reliable pattern of award releases since COVID, so past data isn't going to be a good gauge of availability.

However, the SIN routes back into Australia tend to be in quite high demand at the end of school holiday periods, so don't expect much then. If you're travelling after school is back, you might have a bit better chance, but I would still rate it low.

That's what I figured. Certainly won't be holding my breath. Sadly not flexible with dates for exactly that reason ie. school holidays. Perhaps Qantas will have a sale and I can at least get seats at a better price than currently.

I will add, EK fly that route and is bookable with QF points. They tend to release a bit of last minute availability, so that's something to keep an eye out for. Nothing at the moment though.

Thanks. Yes watching for the EK flight too, but as you say nothing at present either.

Would really rather not if possible. Have had nothing but poor experiences recently with JQ (cancellations etc). Probably prefer to stump up cash.

I needed to fly from Singapore to Australia last January and found pretty much nothing except for Y availability on BA15 from SIN to SYD. Most of the flights were chockers.

Go to pointsyeah.com and set up an email alert for the day(s) you're targeting...

Having said that, late January is the end of school holidays and the start of uni so award availability will be extremely tight, even in economy...

Thanks I have an account with seats.aero and have an alert. But at some point will need to decide to whether to actually book something and was looking to get a feel for generally availability in prior years.

Don't forget that this route was also part of the big classic rewards release earlier this year (I saw Jan available when it dropped). So there's probably quite a lot of rewards seats already allocated.

Sadly I did not see those. Was that in the March release? I am sure I was looking at that time but must have missed them.

Yeh there were definitely some availability in the March release. I was searching Nov / Dec for SIN (picked up a pair in late NOV) and Japan in Jan/Feb while considered SIN as a stopover.
