Hi All,

I am really interesting to find out if rewards ticket redemption availability is the same within the same airline group, e.g., if cathy rewards tickets is available in cathy pacific website, is it redeemable by using aa miles (apparently aa dont always show full available cathy rewards seat on its website). The reason I ask is that aa miles redemption for one way business class tend to be costing less points than if i book the same cathy flight on cathy pacific website.

Any help is appreciated!! Thank you.

Regards,

Mike

Yes you can get AA awards on Cathay but not online. It is best to find out if award seats are available and then you need to ring AA to book that award.though even if you know there is an award is available it is not always seen by the AA agent.

Great, so it is definately worth using aa points compare with asia miles for one way business class, as most of the time aa miles cost less for one way.

Yes but with Australian credit cards Asia Miles are cheaper to earn than AA miles
With Asia Miles you do get a discount for return flights

As drron points out, availability on an airline's own website for their own flights can differ from that they make available to their partners. Airlines release seats to partners at different times to their own members, and may restrict or hold some of the seats back. Phantom availability is also an issue with some airlines via some partner sites (QF and BA often return 'phantom' CX availability.)

But generally - if a 'saver' award (or the equivalent term for the lowest priced award) is available on an airline site it will be available to partners. 'Full' awards (or priority awards) where there's an increased cost to guarantee availability are usually restricted to the airline's own members.
