Apparently the Rex flight due to leave Broken Hill now bound for Sydney is 40 minutes late. To make matters worse, REX is making passengers leave luggage behind in Broken Hill as plane is overweight! Passengers are unsure how/if their luggage will be transported to them.

By road at REX's expense?

The BHQ-DBO-SYD flight is a logical option (not sure if the OP was referring to that flight or the direct BHQ-SYD flight, more likely to be weight restricted on the latter though). Or the next day on a lighter loaded direct flight.

However to take it to extreme, luggage could be transported via ADL ... BHQ-ADL(ZL)-SYD(DJ/QF) or an all ZL method .... BHQ-ADL-MGB-MEL-ABX-SYD ...... now that last one's more like it.

Is there a requirement for an airline to pay for the transport of the luggage, such as use of a courier, to get it to passengers?

I know that when my luggage has been delayed with Qantas one of their reps, or failing that a private courier, has brought it to my home/hotel.

Although this still doesn't overcome the inconvenience of being in a different city to where your luggage is.

I can just imaging the confused traffic when a Metroliner pulls up at the traffic lights behind then queue of motorists.

Of will they use the little tug pulling three or four baggage trailers up the highway?

Can you demand to be re-routed WITH your luggage and get more SC/points?

Perhaps they could go from Melbourne to Mildura to Broken Hill and then on to Sydney?

Similar to Qantaslink: Charleville - Roma(quickstop)-Brisbane?

Yes PLEASE!!! (I say this having just travelled to Broken Hill this past weekend from Melbourne - largely by car. Although at least this time I saved 6hrs driving and flew back from Mildura to Melbourne (and my brother/sis-in-law did the opposite -flying MEL to MQL).
