Rex Flyer Revamp

It was brought up in the Totally Offtopic Thread in the Playground yesterday actually, with one member saying call centre staff are actually getting annoyed with people phoning in to ask as they haven't been told anything... so it's probably a long way off... but no one really knows.

The Rex site is still showing the same message it's been showing since late last year.
Dear Customer,

The Rex Flyer program is temporarily suspended due to a revamp and will not be accepting any new members.

Please check back in later for more information.

For existing Flyer members, the program will still function as per normal.

Thank you for your support.
Cheers

I wonder what the hold up is. Maybe they are looking at creating a points bases system.

Just had a call from Rex advising that the new scheme will be up and running in September, they were planning a July relaunch but have had to delay it yet again,I suggested that they may want to update their website with the latest information and the girl I spoke to promised to get the web team to do so.
Cheers

I ask this question not wanting to start conflict or anything like that so please don't take it the wrong way...

What's the point for Rex to do this. Don't they own the really specialised rural routes? so if you want to go to the particular site you have to fly them?

Recently flew a colleague from MEL to ABX on Rex because there was no other choice... FF program or not they got our business =)

In most cases yes, but certainly not in all instances, they compete on the following routes:
MEL-MQL (QF, DJ)
SYD-WGA (QF)
SYD-DBO (QF)
ADL-PLO (QF)
SYD-BNK (JQ, DJ)
TSV-ISA (QF)

and arguably:
MEL-BWT route competes with MEL-DPO
MEL-ABX competes with road

I personally think its just good customer service to offer a loyalty program. Giving something back for being a regular customer. Also I agree with DrAndyC, a Velocity partnership would be great!

Virgin is already REX's "preferred airline" for connecting flights etc.

I would be surprised if REX are not going to be involved in the up and coming relaunch of Virgin Frequent Flyer (velocity).

*fingers crossed*

I really hope this is the case. Isn't Skywest, Virgin's "preferred regional airline"? It seems like a big coincidence that Rex is having a revamp at the same time as Virgin.

I've seen many Rex staff deadhed on Virgin, so it seems Virgin is Rex's prefered airline.

Skywest is mainly based in WA so Virgin has alliances with both REX and Skywest :D

This hasn't been updated in a bit, note SIA is still missing.

I have had a few redemptions on them now and never had an issue getting the redemption flight. This will certainly make me reconsider driving rather than flying for some of the shorter trips I do on Rex.

Thanks very much to the Federal Government CT, high fuel prices, increasing aviations charges and taxes, and ending of the enroute rebate scheme for that one. I was just about to use my accumulated free flights as well. I think I should be able to use some of them so will report back with success or failure.

In better news for Rex at least the mining charter work and adjustments to their route network should keep their heads above water, hopefully.
