I booked flights tonight from Coffs Harbour through to Mt Gambier. I paid $136 for 2 Qantas flights from CFS to MEL, which was an excllent price. Then on to Regional Express to Mt Gambier. Their prices are always high for the kilometres flown, but you expect this from regional carriers who have monopolies. (Come on QF Link, get a service going to the Mount!)
I completed the online details as per usual, and noticed that REX would also forward your itinerary via SMS if requested. I thought that to be a good idea. I hit the complete button and everything was done. About a minute later I received the text. Imagine my surprise when I found out that $4.80 was added to my tax invoice for SMS services! That's $9.60 for 2 tiny text messages.
I will be voicing my disgust to REX management tomorrow. It most probably won't do any good, but it will help me vent some steam. In the meantime, DON'T agree to SMS from REX, and if this crass profiteering continues, avoid the airline at all costs. They are no longer a small country business - they are rip off merchants like most of the rest.
There, I've had my say and that feels better .....
