Interesting... but I can't imagine they're only looking to drive down prices by $10, so just factor it into the price... and nice to see a balanced report, stating that the Q300's are also under 20 tonne, but QFLink pays the screening cost. To be fair, Qantas would also save money, and I presume it'd cost even more to the council.

I'd like to see competition on this route and re-establishing TMW-BNE route would be welcome by travellers, I'm sure. Maybe the Q300's could be used elsewhere by Qantas.

Every time I have had to fly BNE >SYD >TMW (no BNE >TMW) it's been on a Q400 (from SYD), & I'm not talking about 1 here and there, I'm talking regularly. I would support a BNE > TMW run. I thought jet go was going to do it but no dates or flight times as yet ??? So, Rex if you can do it you have at least one regular pax. Good luck with TRC !

;) :-|

Rex would be charged in SYD(or other ports that require screening) I imagine. If TMW is a screened airport ,for whatever reason ,they should also pay.

TMW is a screened airport. QantasLink have a terminal there with 1 x-ray, 1 explosive sniffer person (machine) & a sort of lounge, (hidden away).

However, doesn't it rely on the weight of the aircraft that determines if it (pax) should be screened ??

No Rex security at Merimbula. In the past flying into MEL/SYD you were screened on arrival. Flew to MEL last month - no screening on arrival. Don't really feel safe with Rex anymore; easier to drive to Canberra and fly Virgin. (much cheaper too.)

I suspect Rex wants the arrangements they have at MQL where they don't pay for security (which btw perhaps incidentally has become quite the hub for them with flights to MEL, ADL, SYD and BHQ).

When DJ/VA first started flying there with their jungle jets, neither QF Link or Rex had flights screened and the screening was only conducted for Va flights with separate boarding gate. I am not sure what happens now, as once QF started flying Q400s there they required screening also. Whatever happens now Rex are not charged for it.

I have been on many ZL and QF link flights without screening. With screening only at the capital city end if you were required to enter the secure area of the terminal to exit and I was never that concerned about it.

I guess from a risk point of view 34 seat Saabs don't carry a lot of fuel, which limits their use as a weapon in the 9-11 sense, particularly as when they reach the capital cities they won't have a huge amount of fuel left. They do carry 34 passengers - but so do many intercity and urban buses ....
