What's the best round the world ticket that will get the most of my velocity membership?

There is a Virgin RTW offer but it's pretty limited in destinations -- MEL/SYD/BNE-LAX-LHR-HKG-MEL/SYD/BNE. You may be able to add a cross US link with Virgin America. It's not great though. There may be other options - I know Virgin Atlantic has a few that they participate in but may not give you points on some/all legs.

Velocity should definitely look into RTW redemption offers offers IMHO.

I've always been amazed that the global Virgin airline brands haven't actively promoted a round the world fare and actually leverage their global brand - a bit of a shame really.

I wonder what the pricing is for such a Virgin "round the world" ticket: would it just be the total cost of all one way flights?

The virgin RTW fares can be found on the virgin atlantic site.

"You can now fly around the world with Virgin from Sydney. You can go East with Virgin Atlantic or West with V Australia. You decide the route and you'll receive that legendary Virgin service all the way around the globe. Call 1300 727 340 to book and for more information.

Virgin Atlantic around the world fares:

From Cabin Depart between Fare (from)
Sydney Economy 17 Mar - 31 May 10 $2834
20 Aug - 06 Dec 10
25 Dec - 31 Dec 10
Sydney Economy 01 Jun - 19 Aug 10 $3150
07 Dec - 24 Dec 10
Sydney Premium Economy 17 Mar - 31 May 10 $4278
20 Aug - 06 Dec 10
25 Dec - 31 Dec 10
Sydney Premium Economy 01 Jun - 19 Aug 10 $4594
07 Dec - 24 Dec 10
Sydney Upper Class Year round $10938
Fares above are inclusive of taxes and surcharges (subject to change). Terms and conditions apply.

ROUTE OPTIONS

#1 Virgin Global West: Sydney-Hong Kong-London-Los Angeles-Sydney

#2 Virgin Global East: Sydney-Los Angeles-London-Hong Kong-Sydney

And - you can even break your journey in the US or Asia as long as you fly in and out of a city operated by Virgin Atlantic. In other words, your itinerary could look something like this: Sydney-Los Angeles *Overland* Chicago-London-Shanghai *Overland* Hong Kong-Sydney.

At present round the world fares can only be booked through our reservations centre or your local travel agent. Please call 1300 727 340 to book and for more information."

I wonder if the alliance with Air New Zealand could help. Apparently we will be able to earn Velocity points when flying with them. They are part of the star alliance so if we book through Air New Zealand we may get the points for the other airlines too.

That would be nice but I can only assume that the conditions will read something like this:

"Velocity points can only be earned on flights operated by Air New Zealand"

At first glance that seems logical but who knows what the real answer will be.
