Would an AAdvatange award of PER-SYD-SIN-HKG be valid if there is a more direct PER-SYD-HKG route available? My thinking is trying to do PER-SYD (QAN J) - SIN (BA F) - HKG (CX F) for 45 000 AA miles

Also what is the layover rules? Is it 24 hours like US airways, or is it shorter? It appears that BA16 arrives in SIN at 9:30PM and the connecting flights to HKG are the next day around 1:15AM

If flights are available, you can choose whatever route you want, including your 3 segment J/F/F example.
Connection times for international are usually 24 hours.
