Fare, 3rd May for fortnight are $1272.22 in Economy. Fares December prior to return on Jan 3rd 2016 are $1595.22, also some cheap fares in Business but hard to find return package. Finished up going Y to LHR and return in J for $3511.62 in early May.

I was tempted by earlier Oz Bargain post re Garuda deal over Dec holiday period prior to finding this deal as an alternative to long 9 hour stop over in Indonesia

Royal Brunei has two short stop overs, one in Brunei, Small, not much to do airport and Dubai on way to London. Possibly a fare would be a little cheaper still if you try Expedia and perhaps check with skycanner.com.au

You do fly in Dream liner 787 and if you have long legs aim for row 43 which has plenty of leg room but close to toilets . No alcohol served but all articles on jetlag suggest that this will ameliorate jetlag. No alcohol and no coffee helps. I know some will think it worth the risk and fly with another carrier.

I have found the Dreamliner comfy and staff are most helpful. lots of fruit juice and water served constantly. I rang Royal Brunei office in Melbourne as they are always helpful and I wanted a combined Y and J class on return. Was advised that travel agents can do likewise.

Haven't found a website that allows this combination fare. Does anyone know of way to do combined fare on web?

I wonder what the loading on the planes are like, not the flavour of the month. This is due to the introduction of Shiria law into Brunei. We have used them twice, when they had B777.

I flew them recently on the 787 in J. Loadings were
6/18 MEL-BWN
3/18 BWN-DXB
3/18 DXB-LHR (myself and a couple travelling together)

Return legs were full all the way through.

.... the introduction of Shiria law into Brunei.

I was actually considering RB (in J) myself some time ago, until that came to light.

Wow, I've copped some flack for mentioning that in the OzBargain thread.

Up until the 80´s, all airlines followed a simple rule: serve heaps of drinks and customers will be happy.

It worked a treat.

Now you get on a 14hr flight across the Pacific and they dim the lights and offer a cup of hot chocolate.

Pitiful. And I bet none of those ¨no alcohol¨experts EVER fly.

The $3511 fare is reasonable, although a mixed class with economy Australia-SIN (and vv) on Singapore airlines, followed by business class on Sri Lankan SIN-LHR (return) would have been cheaper (around $500 less per person), with status credits and points for Qantas if you have an account with them.

As for alcohol and coffee... I don't think there are any hard and fast rules when it comes to jetlag. For me alcohol makes no difference. Sometimes a drink or two can help bring on sleep when needed!

I've done a 9 hour stopover in Bali on Garuda... it was fantastic! Shuttled to a resort hotel close to the airport and enjoyed a few hours by the pool and a delicious dinner of satay before heading back to the airport. The crew for my flight were at the same hotel and shared the shuttle back to the airport with me... I was worried we were running late but the captain pointed out he was flying the plane... so it wasn't going anywhere without us! (fair point)

I admit the food looks pretty good on Royal Brunei!

I have seen references to Royal Brunei that if you BYO they would serve it to you.

Has this changed?

Possibly the best bus you could've been on!

Not changed. They will still serve BYO and supply appropriate 'equipment' (e.g mixers, ice etc)

+1, mate and I continually ordered coke + ice, and we mixed it ourselves with the bourbon we took BYO'd and they were fine with it. Other friends had same experience. They're fine to fly with given the price.
