Hello all and Merry Christmas
My wife & I are booked on our RTW done4 in business class next year with QF, AA & BA. I cant seem to find a decent points calculator that gets me my earn for both points and SC. Any assistance with calculating the earn on below would be appreciated. I am QF gold and the wife is QF silver.

Try MilageMonkey

Put your flight segments into this tool: Mileage Monkey 0.95 page

Note that you will have to allow for the AA A & L class segment SC's rather than J.

Also, I note you are not including any Asian segments. I don't know your time frame/needs/budget, but you could also visit a couple of other asian countries at no change to the base fare, only in the applicable +++'s.

e.g. -(SIN-HKG-NRT-HKG-SIN)- or go LHR-(HKG-NRT-TPE-HKG-SIN)-PER

Furthermore you have anough segments left to do a quick return almost to the east coast; again only for additional +++'s. It must be completed within a year of your original departure. Since you already have gone PER-SYD this is a bit restricted; however business class routings like PER-ADL-ASP-PER or PER-CBR-ADL-PER are possible.

Thanks John K. Much appreciated. How did you figure all of that out? Have you got a calculator that I cant find?

I did all the calculations manually but it doesn't take that long if you know where to look for the information.

The class of travel and base miles are in your posted itinerary above. Cabin bonus is base miles * 25% for J class and base miles * 50% for A (F) class. Status bonus is base miles * 25% for QF Silver and base miles * 50% for QF Gold. Note that status bonus is only paid on QF, BA and AA flights.

The status credits can be calculated using this table and referencing the base miles and class of travel. Your L class flights are Discount economy, D class flights are business and A class flights are First.

Total miles is an addition of base miles + cabin bonus + status bonus. With BA and AA travel in business class or first class there is a minimum of 500 miles which I have noted with an asterisk.

Loyalty bonus of 5,000 points is paid for every 450 SC's. It works on a rolling 450 SC's basis. I just gave a rough estimation based on the SC's for the trip. If you want to know exactly when your next loyalty bonus is due you need to log into you QFF account and view the summary.

The mileage monkey gives the miles (easy to import to Excel) and then form there I assume JohnK has a straighforward spreadsheet to calcuate the miles. I use a vlookup to calculate SCs based on the table from Qantas

I am not quite as sophisticated as you Simon! It all happened as I explained, I used notepad and calculated all the bonuses, total miles and status credits manually without assistance from calculators or spreadsheets.

I have a spreadsheet that does that and has many thousands of routes mileages saved in it.

First off, you're going the wrong way. East to west is usually more convenient than the other way. Travel with the sun and you get better flight times and avoid overnighters. Mind you, with your trip, you've got so many stopovers it probably doesn't matter. Plenty of time to recover from flights.

Second, I don't like those coach class trips in small planes. Sure, the little Embraers are a hoot to fly in, but there's only a couple of cabin attendants and you have to pay for your snacks. I can't say that the MD-80s are much better up front, though at least you get the status points for First.

Third, flying Qantas when Cathay Pacific can do the same sectors is a waste. Qantas is OK in Business, but CX just spoils the hell out of you. And you get to relax in one of their elegant Hong Kong lounges.

Fourth, you've got a total of eight sectors unused, including one North American sector. I'd ditch one of the Embraer sectors and do the same trip via Miami in a bigger plane. Add in a quick Japan trip (via Cathay Pacific, natch) and you've still got three sectors you can use to fly Perth-Sydney-Melbourne-Perth several months after you finish the RTW trip.

If you do it properly, you should be able to make Platinum out of a DONE4. The real experts can do it twice over..

I know I'm in the minority here but I find I travel RTWs eastwards almost every time. Why? Because eastwards I can leave NZ in the evening so I don't lose a day, on arrival from asia/australia in the middle of the day have some hours with shops/banks/etc open to see to anything that needs seeing to. Going westwards means losing the day of departure, and arriving back in NZ very early in the morning (5-6am) - not the easiest to come back to work to.

I also find a middle of day arrival helps adjust body clock much easier. I'm probably tired (packing too much in and the final flight departs early hours of morning NZ time) but several hours of daylight and crash for good sleep. OTOH arriving very early in the morning is tough - to last a whole day feeling tired.

Point taken about leaving after a day at work. You get to sleep on the plane and arrive in the USA in mid-morning, which isn't too bad if you can sleep on the plane, which is a lot easier up front than squeezed into the back.

But I'm not a fan of overnight flights, unless I'm very pressed for time. Breaking the thing up into bite-sized chunks, leaving in mid-morning and arriving in mid-afternoon, spending the night in a real bed. That's my preference. And it's a lot easier to do this going east to west, regardless of flight length: my last transPacific was JFK-NAR, and the whole flight was more or less lunchtime. Besides, for me, half the pleasure is being able to look out the window and I get to see a lot more during the day time.

There isn't much to see on a flight between Oz/NZ and US whether it is nighttime or daytime ;)

Yeah! I've done that thing three times now. It's a killer leg, though good for catching up on movies. That's why the last time was JFK-SYD via Narita which had a lot of scenery, and before that I went SFO-HNL-SYD. Sure and the flight to Honolulu is very watery, but the second leg has a lot of islands to look at, and that's fun.

Then again, I'm usually happy to just stare out the window and think deep thoughts, even if all I can see is wrinkled ocean far beneath. That's very different to my normal daily views. I've always got my laptop nearby to do some writing, and getting into a different headspace sets the creative juices flowing.
