I have a booking in may for a RTW fare (Global Explorer) with QF, BA and AA.

I have upgraded the BA legs to WT+.

When I made the reservation last month, I was quoted A$600 for each leg to upgrade.

I planned on paying for the fare this week, and today got a total. However, I was quoted A$750 to upgrade the flights.

I checked on the ow site and on the technical rule sheet it says US$300 or A$600. Does anyone know how up to date the rule sheets are?

Also, if I were to leave one of the legs as WT, and upgrade it enroute in a country that qualifies for the US price (like Japan), does that mean I will only get charged US$300 even though the ticket was originially issued in Australia?

I appreciate any advice I can get, I need to make a decision in the next few days.

Where are you starting your ATW from, where are you getting it issued and which sectors are going to be in WT+

There can be other issues. If , for example, you are upgrading out of LHR, you would be hit by GBP40 extra in taxes which is approximately $87

If your ticket is issued in AUD, then you will be charged the AUD cost to upgrade later

The booking is DRW - [CNS] - NRT - LHR - YYZ - [ORD] - LAS - [LAX] - [BNE] - DRW

It is being issued by QF Telephone sales.

WT+ is NRT - LHR and LHR -YYZ. I can justify $750 for NRT - LHR but LHR - YYZ isn't that long, so less willing to pay $750 for that.

The Surcharges have changed I see. For BA WT+ or QF Premium economy, the new surcharges are

SECTORS BETWEEN SWP-AFRICA AUD1100/GBP500/USD1000
SECTORS BETWEEN SWP-EUROPE AUD1100/GBP500/USD1000
SECTORS BETWEEN SWP-NTH AMERICA AUD1100/GBP500/ USD1000
SECTORS BETWEEN SWP-STH AMERICA AUD1100/GBP500/ USD1000
SECTORS BETWEEN SWP-ASIA AUD750/GBP350/USD700
SECTORS BETWEEN EUROPE-AFRICA AUD750/GBP350/USD700
SECTORS BETWEEN EUROPE-ASIA AUD750/GBP350/USD700
SECTORS BETWEEN EUROPE-NTH AMERICA AUD750/GBP350/ USD700
SECTORS BETWEEN EUROPE-STH AMERICA AUD750/GBP350/ USD700
SECTORS WITHIN CONTINENTS AUD750/GBP350/USD700

They are correct with the calculations

Thanks. At least the AUD is not twice the USD amount, considering they are nearly equal. That's why I was trying to find a way to pay in USD.

Have you got a link for the new rule sheet?

Another question, Jetstar used to be listed as an available airline for Global explorer, I see they are no longer listed.

Do you think you would be able to book the QF codeshare DRW - SIN, operated by Jetstar?

No, I just read it out of the fare rules on EF. The One World fare rules on oneworld.com still show the old rules

Also, I just checked the rules for ex-USA and the fare rules for AA still show the old surcharge values for BA. If you are quick, perhaps you can get it issued by AA with old rules or maybe QF is just inventing their own surcharges

From the AA fare rules exUSA

UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED A SURCHARGE APPLIES.
NOTE - WORLD TRAVELLER PLUS OPTION - ECONOMY CLASS PASSENGERS MAY TRAVEL IN BA WORLD TRAVELLER PLUS CABIN FOR AN ADDITIONAL
CHARGE OF USD 300/AUD 600 PER FLIGHT SEGMENT.
EXCEPTION - FOR DIRECT FLIGHTS BETWEEN LONMEL AND LONSYD THE CHARGE WILL BE USD 450/AUD 900 PER FLIGHT SEGMENT

I guess the price increase isn't totally unexpected given the increase to T and W fares. Might be worth it for something like LHR-Asia though.

No. QF codeshares on JQ international are not permitted at all
QF codeshares on JQ for domestic Australia flights are permitted as long as the ticket is not sold in Australia
