I've led a mostly charmed life in recent years with rare and only short flight delays.

Currently in the PER QP (oh how it needs a J lounge:!:) with QF 802 with scheduled 11:55am departure, revised to 1:30pm but no sign of boarding at that time. Reason is "mechnaical"(sic) according to the board.

Ho hum. Good thing I don't have anything urgent in MEL.

You must be lucky. I've frequently had 60-90 minute delays out of PER. These were more frequent when I was taking the 743 flights before they were retired, but even on the 767's there seems to be large amounts of delays frequently (I refuse to fly a 737 for that length of time, I like to be able to walk around without being slammed back into my seat for a trolley to whizz past). Never seem to get the 330's to/from MEL though unfortunately.

I hear ya Codash, I have family arriving on that flight. As I'm sure you are now well aware, it ended up departing at 15:11 - some 3.25 hrs late!

Off to the airport now to run the MEL Airport pickup gauntlet.

A little more to it than just the delay. They switched planes to the one scheduled to fly to Sydney and rebooking those passengers on to two later flights (one of them much later, I think).

Then they pushed back before loading all of the meal carts. Later apology from the FA's indicating that it was a "company" decision over the protests of the crew in order to minimise any furrther delays. Those passengers at the back of the plane who missed out on a meal may think otherwise. Vouchers were offered for meals at MEL but only in the Int terminal, since nothing else was open.

That said, the FA's did an excellent job under pressure.

Got a letter from QF today apologising for any inconvenience caused by the delay and enclosing a voucher.

Things are looking up
