Currently sitting on the plane awaiting a departure time for KRK. Runway is closed due an incident which I believe to be a Virgin plane. Anyone heard anything as to why?

It's delaying the start of our minimoon! ;)

Due to a Virgin Atlantic flight with a medical emergency apparently. Doesn't make sense that the plane would still be sitting on the runway. BBC says its due to the plane going tech..... who knows:!:

Smoke in coughpit coming from PPRUNE. VS27 MCO-LGW. Details still sketchy.

Seems to be an A330 with smoke in the aircraft - passengers being evacuated, airport closed at present

Not even any smoke.

Matt
But glad everyone made it down the slide without breaking limbs.

Surprised no reference to the Rollers on the bird from NoNews.

Mustn't be RR Bashing Season anymore!

The delays and temp closure of LGW seems to be due to the aircraft being evacuated while on the runway. Given it had been in the air for 1.5 hours, so assuming one hour into flight before returning to LGW, I don't understand why the aircraft would have remained on the runway after landing and not taken the extra few mins to taxi to a location where evacuation and emergency services activities would not close the runway?? Then again, its the Captain's decision and he is in a way better position to make such judgment than me!

The comment that "The airport reopened using a back-up runway" is interesting. Its a good thing they had a backup runway.

CX did the same with their evac, at the end of the day the sooner you can get people off the better, there was an evac where some people fought at an exit and blocked the way off, those few seconds cost many lives.

I can confirm we took off using the backup / emergency runway. Made it to Krakow safely and our driver was there waiting to take us to the hotel :)

Ok, and thanks :D

Shouldn't you be getting back to your minimoon now? :p
