I’m continuing my annual leave with a trip around Europe (with a brief few days in Doha and Moscow) and this flight report is for my flight from Munich to Moscow.

I wasn’t really keen to flying any Russian airlines but the cheapest flights (by far) I could find were with S7, who also happened to be OW so I get a few perks being OWE.

It started well with an email to select a seat. I explained that I was OWE and they let me choose any seat in the Y cabin, so I went with 3F, which was at the front of the Y cabin and considered an ‘extra room seat’. But it was mostly down hill from there…

I connected with an Air Berlin flight so I can’t comment on the check-in but priority boarding didn’t happen. Premium S7 pax get access to the Atlantik lounge but I chose instead to go to the BA lounge since I tried the former a few days ago and didn’t think it was particularly good. The BA lounge wasn’t great itself, mind you. No showers and not even toilets (you had to leave the lounge and walk 20-40 meters to find those.

As I said PB didn’t happen, nor did a greeting on boarding. They didn’t even look at my BP. I settled into 3F for the 3hr flight which was otherwise uneventful. There were two drinks run but on both occasions the FAs seemed to ignore me and just serve the pax next to me. I had an open posture and tried to make eye contact so I’m not sure what I was doing wrong. On the second occasion, the pax next to me called the FA who proceeded to give me a cup of water after I asked for a coffee. Anyway… I did get a meal, which was OK. It think it was chicken, although wasn’t sure.
The seat itself, being an extra legroom one, was fine. It seemed wider than most Y seats and there was plenty of leg room.
There was no IFE so I busied myself on my lap top (no power points or USBs).
All of the announcements were in Russian and English.
We left MUC a little late but made up that time in the flight and it was otherwise uneventful.
I’ve heard that S7 sometimes hand out express customs passes to J and OWEs? I saw none of that although I did read that status pax at DME can simply go via the diplomat lanes at customs. I felt a little uncomfortable about that so I went up to the security guy and simply asked where express customs was and he pointed me towards the diplomat line. Alas, there was still a 20 min wait since there were two pax (!!) in front of me and everything seemed very slow.

The positives? I got a good seat and arrived safe and alive. The negatives, well, everything else. Having the FA seemingly ignore me started my brief Russian trip off quite poorly. I’m grateful that I’m flying out of DME tomorrow with JAL (J 788 with the new skysuits*)

*Expect a TR on that in a few days.

Sadly it's all come to an end and I'm currently sitting in my office at work attempting to pay for the trip. :)
Over-all, QF and QR were as good as I expected but the BA flights (Y and F, J less-so)) were pleasant surprises. S7 were as cough as I expected, and AB are a LCC so I can't really criticise them. They were adequate.

It feels weird not having any flights booked until December!

Expectations are a big factor - but I've been OK with AB and even BA (except for the hideous J config) recently. Reckon I'll give BA F a crack before too long. Though SQ (and maybe LH which I will be sampling in the next few weeks) are obvious rivals.
