My visit to ADL has resulted me in incurring a rather hefty $400 fine for going over the limit by 14km/h. Once can apparently pay online at the SA Police website by CC. Postbillpay is also listed as an option. Will this earn points?

No idea but always good to see you looking at the bright side.

However, you should check if you can opt for a warning if this is your first offence in a few years. Many states allow you to write in and admit the offence and request a warning in lieu of the fine if you have a good driving record.

Always worth asking.

Good question but I don't drive in Adelaide so I have never had the opportunity to cop a fine.
Last week I was driving downhill in Perth and my radar detector went off. The crash braking I used caused the auto collision system to activate on my car.....the seat belts auto tightened dramatically and I went past the camera at about 30 instead of 60 plus in the 60 zone. Detectors are legal in Perth so I have had them on each car for years.
Good luck with your FF points earning. Let us know how it goes.

I don't see why it wouldn't earn points. Should classify a purhchase, albeit not one of those that you want to be making too much of!

I will send a letter trying, although i have heard SA isn't one of the states that will convert to a caution upon asking.

I've never lost a demerit point before, and my license isn't even SA issued.

Would they have my license number? It was a hire car and I listed my Victorian license on the form, but I wonder if Hertz necessarily pass that on. What if I was driving on my overseas (HongKong) license? How would they be able to tell if I have a clear record to begin with?

Yes Hertz will pass your licence details on (how do you think the fine found its way to you in the first place?). All states share their licence database and demerit points can be "earned" anywhere.

14 KM/h over the limit might be stretch. Even Victoria has pulled it back to only allowing a max of 10 over the limit.

Let's hope your letter works. Speeding fines are not tax deductible so a beautifully written letter would impress us especially if it works.

From experience the demerit points can be earned anywhere is a complete myth. About 12 months ago I was done using a mobile phone in WA (I live in NSW), just paid the fine over the internet and no points were ever allocated against my license, which I was very surprised at as I have a heavy vehicle license

I must agree there - in my experience, State police and Transport departments are independent. Each State to their own....

Yes. On a downhill section of highway in a "variable" speed zone.

Then you're hosed. No getting out of the fine. But should be able to earn points when paying the fine by credit card.
