SAA and VA. Same flights, wildly different prices in J!

Looking at mid May Melbourne - Johannesburg return in J. VA price is around $7500, SAA is $4,500. Same flights. On SAA I get SC and 1.25 points, on VA I get Plat bonus points. So it pays to look around....
 
Quite a big difference! I suspect it's due to VA only having access to the higher fare classes.
