I have about 100 name card holders ( with attached safety pins) that I want to take on a domestic then international flight . As this is a convention I am going to, I have placed the prepared (written on) name tags inside sealed envelopes, ready for distribution. Will these be allowed in my carry-on or should I pack them in my checked baggage to avoid any hassles and holdups?
I couldn't find anything specific about needles, pins etc at the qantas site.
Thanks for helping.

As you don't need them during the flight, just pack them in your checked baggage. Only carry on board what you need during the flight or could be damaged in checked bags. I would not expect name tags to be so delicate that they can't survive in a checked bag when appropriately packed.

I would take them onboard - that is hardly something that you would want to go missing and try and replace last minute

There should be no problems with them - crew wear name badges and I have novelty pins outside of my bag as well and neither cause a problem. I also use safety pins for all my jacket buttons.

Milehighclub is correct, there are "pins" onboard on crew etc, but all it will take is some officious security person to make your life miserable - and they get two chances, don't forget! So, NM's right. If you don't need them onboard, don't take them onboard.

If going to a convention you will be in a major city I assume so I would check the tags and not worry about them. Have an electronic copy of the list of people so you can go to [insert generic print co] and get them printed.
