Anyone got a recommendation, with reason(s)? I have an afternoon flight arrival and late night flight departure next day.

I'm inclined to go Aloft, but only because I have Gold with Starwood. Any consistently good hotel will trump that (if you'll excuse the expression ;) )

I recently stayed at the Hyatt. Wouldn't rush back. Aloft looked much nicer (at least from the outside it did).

Not much help but try and get the nicest one possible because not only is that whole areas crazy overpriced but it's not particularly a nice area. I stayed in a Staybridge suite and it was quite awful TBH. Gun shots woke me at 2AM and i propped a chair under the door handle. You really don't want to have to leave the hotel if you don't have to. But that's my opinion. So basically......i wouldnt budget too much. ;-)

Strewth. What area exactly, ozjuice? I stayed at the Hilton about 5 years ago - with a couple of other hotels in the same chain on its own little promontory SE of the airport. Was a really nice grassy area by the water IIRC and I walked along the shore to the airport perimeter.

Huntington Ave, San Bruno was the area, but i feel you're better off over near the water, Just avoid San Bruno.

Pretty much all the airport precinct hotels are much of a muchness.

The prices are ridiculous fairly often lately - I actually has a great stay at the Holiday Inn Express recently and I was pretty darn impressed.

I've stayed at the Hilton, Four Points, Westin and a few others - I would personally book on price.

I used to stay at the doubletree until my sister moved to San Mateo, although I usually drive out to Sacramento - I like the Hyatt Place in Davis.

BTW - Why do Aussies love to say that they heard gun shots in the US? I often joke to American friends that if you ask 5 Aussie's about the US at least 4 will say that they have been shot at (which is bs of course)!!! I've seen more violence between taxi drivers in Sydney than anywhere else in the world!

I've been to the US on several occasions and never heard shots fired in public. This was a one off in the car park out the back of the shopping Mall shortly followed by sirens. Very close indeed to our room. It happens i guess but it's not a nice area all round. Not sure about telling anyone i was shot at though.
