Hi all

did a search to see if this was mentioned anywhere but thought this might affect some of you:

From 1 May 2011, Qantas Frequent Flyers will no longer be able to earn points on or be able to redeem points for travel on eligible SAS flights.

Not something that I would have noticed but was scrolling through the Airline Earning Table and spotted it.

Mods: if this mentioned elsewhere please delete.

yeah, pi$$e$ me off a bit when i noticed that a week or so ago... was planning on maybe flying copenhagen-oslo-stockholm-helsinki in July and SAS had some decent fares...

Damn! Has anyone heard anything about why this has come about?

It's mutual!

News! EuroBonus and Qantas

We go separate ways after 16 years on May 1, 2011, until then, you can still earn points and book award flights with one year validity from the date of issue.

  • Last day for booking award flights is April 30, 2011
  • Last day for travelling for award travel is April 29, 2012
  • Last day for earning points is April 30, 2011
  • Last day for register missing points October 30, 2011

Not any particularly new information; this is just rehashed stuff from the website. But I just received this email now:

Dear EuroBonus Member,

After more than 16 years, EuroBonus and Qantas Frequent Flyer have decided to discontinue their loyalty program partnership. The termination will be effective from May 1st, 2011.

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) and Qantas will continue with a strong commercial relationship, even though our respective memberships in Star Alliance and Oneworld means our bilateral frequent flyer affiliation with Qantas is no longer possible.

You can continue to accrue EuroBonus points on Qantas flights until April 30th, 2011*. As for redemption, the last date for award bookings on Qantas flights will also be April 30th, 2011**.

From May 1st, 2011 you will still be able to choose to fly with Qantas and SAS to Europe on a range of airfares from Australia. As a EuroBonus member you'll continue to accrue points on your SAS flights. If you are also a Qantas Frequent Flyer member, simply register your number for your Qantas flights at the time of booking and you'll continue to accrue points on this program.

Naturally, with SAS being a member of the Star Alliance, when you fly to Europe with our alliance partners such as Thai Airways International and Air China in combination with SAS, your membership entitles you to full accrual benefits for your entire journey. When it comes to redemption you can redeem points for flights with all 27 member airlines of the Star Alliance.

Thank you for your understanding and continuous support.

Yours sincerely,
Scandinavian Airlines

*Last date for retroactive registration is October 30th, 2011.
**Last departure date for award travel is April 29th, 2012. Award tickets for Qantas flights after termination date have to be issued latest April 30th, 2011.

Yes - doing it now. The 35,000 points anywhere in Australia return in Qantas J is my usual pick!

Bugger!! I booked and paid for a return "J" trip for September from SYD - TXL ...... Is there any chance I will still earn points since I have already paid in full to secure the deal?
