SC earning with Points Club and Award Flights

Was it available? That’s often the problem.

Golden Rule of PC is to book highest reward fare available if that’s what you’re after! I recently cancelled and rebooked a SYD-CGK CR that only had whY CR seats and pending upgrade request (which probably would have cleared) but 2x J CR seats appeared closer out so I pounced!
Yes, J seats were available from the outset. Long haul domestic. I was probably being stingy with points and then changed my mind. 😆

QFF forgot to renew my PC status for three months. They finally sorted that after numerous emails and phone calls. The vouchers were then received, but I’m still fighting for the SCs.
Ah, sorry to hear that. But outside unusual circumstances (and I’ve seen a couple of others have slipped through the crack), they do normally post quickly.

We’ve probably all done that. Seems like a good idea at the time and think, oh wouldn’t an upgrade be nice. A non-issue if not PC/PC+.

I did a classic upgrade SIN-PER whY to J last year. I was already in SIN and due to fly home via PER. No joy SYD-SIN (I’d forgotten how long that fly can be down the back). So I thought I’d tried my luck on an upgrade. Lodged it before going to bed and it cleared before I woke up! Torn emotions. I have an upgrade but missing out on SCs…. Dang. 😁 Of course, PER-SYD didn’t clear and we were shoehorned into a packed 737….

Correct. There was no rewards J Availability and decided to request upgrade for another 58k points. I was expecting the J Status but obviously not. I assume U Class only gets status from your original booking then.

Correct. SC as per original booking, irregardless of subsequent upgrades. Same deal if you pay for the U seat.

Am I the only one who has just realised that it is now possible to book a (lower class) classic award with points, then upgrade that to a higher class with more points (as if you were upgrading a revenue ticket)! 😂
When did this start happening?

Precovid. But if the higher class is available book it!

Had no idea, that's longer than I expected.
Then again I haven't put in for a points upgrade in 10 years. From memory, 100% success! (1/1) 😂
Generally the plan is to book highest class, that way you know what you'll get .. and won't be disappointed!

There's also a caveat to this that QF will not let you upgrade CR J to F. Only CR Y/PE -> J. Don't ask me why. I don't work there :)

Don’t worry; I’m PC+ and have flown five classic reward flights since March 1st and haven’t received SCs for any of them! It’s an uphill battle.

Further to this, I just received an email in response to my last one. Answer: I didn’t earn any SCs for my five classic reward flights as I did not attain PC+ until June 27th this year! I have replied asking them to check their records. (I retained PC+ on March 1st, but QF downgraded me to non PC and did not rectify their mistake until June 27th!)

I am not giving up on 55-75 status credits!

Of course, you only need PC to earn SCs on CR flights. Presumably you crossed that hurdle long before the PC+ target anyway?

I rectified my post to confirm lack of SCs for classic reward flights. QF had downgraded me to fully non PC even though I passed the PC requirement last year, as well as the PC+ level in February.

Hi. Maybe im Missing something, but recently I flew SIN-MEL in a classic reward business class seat.

I was awarded 48 SC but the point calculator even for discount business has an earn rate of 120 SC. My reading of the point club benefit was that classic reward on qantas metal get SC as if they were paid cash.

Well that’s tricky.

There's a clear link to the earning table on the Points club benefits page.

Though the page itself is tricky by being earn tables, and there not being an easy SC Calculator Tool to put in your departure/arrival airport for Points Club Classic Flight Reward earning. I don't know how many miles I'm travelling from A to B

EDIT: Oh that's handy, just published today!

Interesting, where did you see this?
