SC Regret/ Apathy

Notwithstanding the fact that every paid flight contributes SC's toward LTS or LTG how many of you feel a pang of regret or apathy when you have cleared one status levels SC's for the year but know there's not enough travel left before your anniversary date to reach the next?

I am currently Platinum but having been grounded for 3 months with #2 son arriving I know that I will fall somewhere in the middle of Gold and Platinum this year. Having skipped over Gold already, each flight between now and end of my SC year feels like a waste of SC's that I could be putting towards another lunge at Platinum next year.

Small problem but when I'm left without IFE on a return from MEL - CBR, something I ponder....

Being LTG it is always regretful when Platinum SCs done but with Virgin just as bad as no lifetime status and no one I care to give status to once over Platinum.

You have to remind yourself you are still accruing LT status. The alternative that some do once they pass the threshold, is depending on the fares you typically travel on, switch earning to a different program (such as AAdvantage) where you may well get better value from the points when it comes to redeeming.

Consider each flight as increasing the chance that you will be comped to WP next year - I suspect I will be in the same situation this year.

I tried the same thing last year. Didn't work
As I'm LTG, at least it can't get any worse.

Apathy's an apt word for what I'm feeling about my entire future with the program.

Or will be feeling. Right now I'm a bit frantic re-evaluating all of my future cancellable bookings and working out what might be done better or whether I really need those SCs.

Beyond that, I no longer have enough faith to assume that things like soft landings will be preserved, that I'll get to travel in the class I booked, that I'll get the services that were offered at the time I booked, that I'll get to fly in the type of plane I intended to book, and worst of all, that Qantas will try to make things good when any of the above goes wrong.

I had the exact same feeling towards the end of my membership year last year. I reached gold with Qantas well before I had finished my paid flights for the year but ended up 200 SCs short of platinum. Well I did feel as though earning most of those extra SCs was a bit of a waste, I couldn't justify spending money I didn't need to spend in a very short amount of time to get to platinum.

Hopefully they will help me to get gold or silver comped this membership year as just about all of my travel with Qantas is on classic awards.

Some programs allow you to pause your membership for major life events... which everyone has at one stage or another!

A quick trip in F from MEL to AKL on EK with a QF flight number will bounce up the SCs, wouldn't it?
From SYD to AKL its 120 per one way in F.
Probably MEL to AKL is the same, return its 240 SCs.
Not cheap though, and the wife/partner would not be happy you swanning off across the ditch, leaving her to look after bubs.
Amassing SCs or keeping the OH happy and satisfied!/?
