Hi All
I’m a newbie and this is my first post, so plz be kind....
I’m currently require 125 SC before 31/3 to reach QF Platinum. I have one trip to Vietnam on the 25/3, likely flying Y class on One World carriers from Bris to Hanoi.
My concern is that this leg will not yield the 125 SCs I require (I estimate I’ll prob get 80-100 Scs max). It’s also likely my return leg will be after the 31/3 when my SCs will be reset to zero. Yeh close, but no cigar!
Does anyone have any suggestion on how I could bump up my SC on this trip? I don’t mind travelling through additional cities providing overall costs aren’t too much more. If I upgrade to J class using FF points, do you get SCs based on the Y paid fare or J upgrade?

Are you located in Syd? If so, a J class return day trip to Canberra would help..

But some of the experts on this board may have some better ideas..

Its easy to check on QF web site how many SC's you will get. https://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/do/dyns/initialPointsEarned

As a guess BNE-Hanoi will get a lot less than 80 SC's in economy. BNE-SIN gets 60 SC in Y, 30 in discount economy.

Which airline are you flying with?

To get all the SC's needed for Plat you will need to book another trip. Try starclass domestic on Jetstar

Mileage monkey lists SYD-HAN as 4845 miles which should generate 35/70 SCs depending on the ticket type.

It might drop down to 30/60 if QF have their own mileage calc for SYD-HAN and it is below 4801 miles...

Are you qualifying or requalifying - QF might let it slide if you are requalifying...

There are "cheap" Y class fares availble between AU and HKG that book into full Y and would earn 60 SC each way. Return airfare would typically be ~$2,000 between BNE-HKG.

This, plus HKG to HAN in disc Y on CX would get you over the line.

Not sure if your budget extends this far or not.

Thanks to all for the suggestions...
I will be flying full economy on QF, CX or JL departing BNE to HAN (via HKG, SIN or NRT) – I don’t think there are any direct flights on those carriers between AUS and HAN.
Reading between the lines it seems I’m going to be struggling to get those SCs unless I buy a J class ticket, or book another flight, particularly with my return leg not until after the 31/3.
What’s disappointing is that last month I flew J class BNE-LAX-CHI-YUL, however due to the late arrival of QF into LAX, I got bumped onto Air Canada and lost all the SCs for final two legs in J class (on AA) which would have qualified me for platinum....

On your missing points:
IF you were booked on AA as part of a QF ticket I would contact QF with the original itinerary and try and get them to credit the points.
Afterall QF will have paid AA for the tickets so AA should have revenue to pay QF for the points/ SCs

If this is no good, on the flights:

1. You might consider Jetstar Starclass Sydney- Ho Chi Minh which is just over $1000 one-way in Star-Class and will earn J SCs. 4258miles = 120SCs

Pacific Airlines (now 18% owned QF) and soon to be called Jetstar has 7 flights a day Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh

2.
BNE-NRT-HAN in Full Y - 4446m=60SCs , 2313m=40SCs Total 100SCs
(Note only half SCs if not in Full Y)(JAL flies direct to HAN)

BNE-HKG-HAN in Full Y - 4321=60SCs , 526m=20SCs Total 80SCs
(also think CX only files to HAN on a codeshare so you will probably only get 60SCs)
(Note only half SCs if not in Full Y)

(All miles calculated from MileageMonkey)

Given the need for 125SCs
I would try and go Jetstar Starclass (more direct) for 120SCs and a BNE-SYD run even in discount Y will get you 10SCs. alternatively use the via NRT route and maybe do a quick BNE-SYD run for the additional

I suggest you contact Qantas Frequent Flyer by EMail and request "original Routing Credit". Include your original E_ticket (or scans of you paper tickets), scans of boarding passes for your actual travel and any other information you may feel pertinent.

Full economy (Y) is often very expensive. Worth checking exactly what fare bucket class you are buying.

Thanks, I’ll contact QFF and see if I can claim the original SCs - I’ll let everyone know how I get on.
Not sure if I still have my boarding slips, however do have my original itinerary which should be enough. I was flying on a J class around the world ticket presumably purchased through Qantas (was organised by company travel agent).
Is there any actual email address for QFF, other than the HTML based feedback system at http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/program/contacts which could take ages to get a response? Might be easier giving them a call.

[email protected]

However, both the feedback forms and the emails end up in the same spot I believe, so emailing may not be any faster (Note that I think the longest I've waited for a response from sending FF/other feedback to Qantas has been about a week, so I don't consider it to be too slow)

Also check the fare routing rules for the fare you purchase. You may be able to route BNE-SYD-HKG-HAN, or BNE-SYD-NRT-HAN for some extra SCs and only the cost for extra fuel fines etc

Always worth keeping the boarding passes until points & SC's post. Intinerary is not alawys accepted. Friends of mine got denied points some years ago as they had turfted the boarding passes. Have you got other recepits:- hotels, taxi etc. ? Also the ticket number 081-xx_x?? from the TA. Also a phone call to the Q Freq Flyer, as on the back on you ff card, may be in order. Obviously very important you get the SC credit.

As an update…

I contacted QFF and convinced them to credit the extra SCs owing for the original J class route I was scheduled on LAX>CHI>YUL (120+30 pts) as well as FF points – which has now qualified me for QFF plat.

In the end I’ve selected a day route through to Hanoi on Qantas code-share with Vietnam airlines: BNE>MEL>SGN>HAN which credits SCs and FF pts.

Well done. :D

In future I would keep all the BP's though. Just in case :!:
