Does anyone know whether earlybirds from Scandinavian count towards SC and points for Qantas FF program?

The Qantas website seems to suggest there is some difference between earning points and SC with a Partner (e.g. BA or Cathay) and another OW member (e.g. Scandinavian) - but i cant work out the difference

If points and credits do accrue, how much?

The reason i ask is that i am keen to travel from Sydney to Athens in or around September 2008. From the earlybirds i can find, most seem to average around the $2300 return mark. Swiss seems to be the cheapest at $2250 (inclusive of taxes). However, Cathay is $2550 (inc. taxes), so with approx 30000 FF points and 120 SC, i reckon this would be better overall value.

The rub is that Scandinavian is $2430 (inc. taxes), so if it accrues the same points and credits as a Partner flight, then it would seem to be the best option.

Any thoughts from the more experienced travellers on this forum?

You can earn QFF points for flying on SAS on certain flights but not status credits.

thanks Anna for your help.

would i get the same value of points (i.e. 30000) or would it be at a lesser rate?

kklutasi, go to the QFF Program Rules Airlines Table and scroll to the end (as they are the last airline in the list) to see SAS's earning for all fare types. As has been pointed out, you'll earn mileage but no status credits in your QFF account.

I can't work out how you determine that you will earn 30,000 QFF points.

Travelling from SYD-ATH return is ~19,000 miles so if you are on discount economy earning on QFF then it will be ~19,000 QFF points.

If flying with Cathay on a cheap airfare then this will only earn ~9,500 QFF points. Full economy on Cathay will earn ~19,000 QFF points but you will not get that airfare for ~$2450~

If flying Swiss then you will not earn any QFF points.

If flying on Scandinavian there is no QFF point earning SYD-ATH.

Qantas Earning Table said:
Limits: Points can not be earned on Swedish domestic flights between Stockholm and the following cities: Angelholm, Gothenburg, Kiruna, Lulea, Malmo, Ostersund, Ronneby, Skelleftea, Sundsvall Umea and Vaxjo. Points can not be earned on Norwegian domestic routes.
Otherwise, Points can only be earned on flights operated by SAS with an SK flight number within Scandinavia and between Scandinavia and Asia.
Excluded: Points are not earned on Codeshare Flights.

thanks John.

i calculated 30000 points because i am FF Gold status. 50% points bonus on all flights

Ahh!

Unfortunately the Gold status bonus is only applied to QF, BA and AA flights....
