Hi all

In my boredom, I decided to review a few of the upcoming flights I have booked.

To my surprise, many of them have been changed and I'm amazed I have not been contacted regarding any of the changes!!

1st Case
I'm flying ADL-BNE via MEL in October (DJ224/337 which had a 30min layover). I choose to fly via MEL so that I could arrive at BNE at a specific time to coincide with 2 other separate groups of people arriving from different destinations.

DJ224 originally departed at 1345, it now departs at 1405.

Virgin has now changed me to (DJ224/341) which gets me there 1 hour later.

My return flight DJ1406 has been changed from 1915 to 1905 but no major hassles here.

2nd Case
From MEL to SYD, VA841 now departs at 1215 instead of 1200.

Return, flying VA from AUH to SYD then to MEL in the one itinerary arriving into SYD at 0715, flying to MEL 0845 on VA822 (I know short turnover but it was the only option the system would let me select ....) Now it has been changed to VA830 leaving at 1000 instead!
Yer no issue for the half of us finishing our trip in MEL, except for the other half of us who have onward journeys. I already booked my MEL to ADL on DJ223 which happens to depart at 1205 from MEL on a separate itinerary.

I'm one of those idiots who saves all these times (amongst everything else) onto my iPhone. Most times before I fly I do double check, but sometimes I don't and with all the unannounced changes one might just be caught out.
I would suggest that if you book several months in advance, you double check your times before you fly, if they have made changes to my timetable, they could hit you with the same thing too!

Time for a lengthy call to the VA call center.

Seasoned travelers are often mindful of the flux schedules go through as they transition from Summer to Winter timetables (northern hemisphere), a lot of these changes get loaded in Aug giving the airlines up to 8 weeks to let people know. Services like Worldmate keep an eye on things and let you know as soon as changes occur.

They've fixed up most changes for me and waived booking fees as well since I'm on a few saver fares too. Easy done...

Blah I'm not seasoned enough. Annoying...

I believe VA has a manual process of notifying passengers when there is a schedule change. Given the fact that your flight is in October, VA would be in the process of informing passengers of those flights in the near future first, before contacting you (via mail).

Lazybones is quite correct. We would have been in touch with you prior to your travel.
