Hi guys,

New here but have been reading for some time - there is some very useful info on here !
Thanks all for contributing.

Now my question, and I've been noticing this recently, on a variety of international flights eg. MEL-LAX, MEL-SIN, MEL-HKG, etc.

Usually Sale or Red E-deal flights are classed as Discount Economy in terms of SCs.
But recently even the most expensive class of economy "super saver" is classed as Discount Economy in terms of SCs.

Does anybody know why this is ?
Is there any way to get full Economy SCs when travelling in economy class anymore ?

Thanks

Nizar

Actually its "flexi saver" that's the most expensive and even that is Discount Economy !

Here is the answer:

On international flights, the only way to get full Y SCs is to book the "Y" booking class which is often not possible online (may have to do it over the phone or via a TA).

When travelling domestic, you can see there are more Y fare buckets that credit at full Y SCs. (Flexi saver or fully flex)

And if you really needed to book full economy for a few extra SCs then probably best to book discount business class and get more SCs.

I remember a few years ago asking about full economy SYD-BKK and the airfare was close to AUD6,00 for return. It would have been cheaper to book discount business class and earn 4xSCs.

The problem for some is that their employer has a policy that you can only fly Economy. It matters not that Business is cheaper, you have to follow the process.

I've worked for several companies that just won't budge on this not matter how much sense it might make to do otherwise for particular trips.

QF used to have more reasonably priced Y fares to Asia - I have used these previosuly (a few years ago) to both SIN and HKG. From memory they were only ~ $200 more expensive than the flexi fares. I haven't seen anything similar to the US where anything that books into Y class is very expensive.
