SE Asia in July

I'm planning a stopover trip (6-7 days)it somewhere in SE Asia in early July as part of a bigger trip to EU. I was considering Vietnam as I've never been and it looks great. However, reading about the weather in Vietnam in July I'm a little concerned. Alot of websites make it sound unbearably wet. Whereas somewhere like Malaysia is reported to by quite dry at this time.

So my question(s):
1) can anyone report on weather conditions of Vietnam in july and whether this made the trip unbearable or not?

2) if Vietnam is a no-go, what are some other suggestions that work at this time of year?

I thought April-November was the wet or monsoon season in most of SE Asia but that should not stop you from having a good holiday.

I have been to Thailand during this time and it is wet but generally only a few hours a day if at all.

Most places are fine to go to in July. The "monsoon" season covers quite a few countries in the south-east Asia region, but their meaning of "monsoon" is pretty much an hour or so of rain every day. And, in July, basically anywhere south from Japan/Korea would be very warm, and very humid if near the sea, so weather should be the least of your concerns when choosing a stop-over spot.

It depends whether you're on the east cost or west cost of countries like Malaysia and Thailand eg July would be the wet season for coughet (west coast Thailand) and further south the resort islands on the west coast of Malaysia such as Penang & Langkawi. This can affect activities such as day trips to islands like Phi Phi as the seas can get extremely rough.

If I was heading to Thailand or Malaysia in July I would go to Hua Hin on the east coast mainland or Koh Samui Island. In Malaysia Kuantan on the east coast mainland or Tioman Island oculd be an option for you.

Have been to the coastal resort of Mui Ne (pron. Moo Nay) in Vietnam in March which very very pleasant as it was the dry season which is November to April. May to October during the rainly season it may rain late arvo of evening for an hour or two but it would not deter me from visiting in July.

Yep June, July and August are typically the months of highest rainfall for Vietnam and neighboring countries. I went to Cambodia in August, the rain wasn't so bad, but the mosquitoes were bad. I ended up catching dengue fever, although a relatively mild case.

While for the east coast of peninsula Malaysia June, July and August have the least rainfall. Although the bad part is that a lot of the resorts put their prices up. For the west coast of Malaysia that period is also dry but the difference between wet and dry season is less.

Have you seen the rains in Sydney in the last 48 hours? then it would make the rainfall in Vietnam look like just a drizzle

Don't forget Vietnam requires a visa which adds to the price and hassle (so do Laos and Cambodia but they are cheaper and easier to get).
